Here is a great way to teach kids about knife safety and the mechanics of how a folding knife works. this Real working model of a lock-back knife enables young outdoor enthusiasts to build their very own folding knife. the smooth rounded plastic edges make it safe for kids ages 7 and up with adult supervision. just like the original nathan's knife kit, this kit is a great way for adults to teach youngsters about the function and safe handling of a folding knife while imparting the safety concerns of a Real knife. Kids love building and taking apart trigger knife kits over and over. the fun gets even bigger with 13 mix and match colors that allow kids to customize their very first knife in their favorite color combinations. . Review: Excellent Knife Kit to use for Cub Scout Whittling Chip - These kits were perfect for a cub scout program to teach boys (7-8 years old) how to safely use a knife and show how the insides work. We ordered different brands of wooden and plastic kits to try out. Being in a humid environment, we had a little bit of trouble with the wooden kits of a different brand (I think the dowels swelled in the humidity, which made it tough for the boys to fit them in without an adult helping). The assembled Klecker plastic knife was a little bit smaller than the wooden one, and seemed to work better in their hands. After the boys built the Klecker knives, they were each given a bar of soft soap to carve. (For those scouters out there, we had them use tongue depressors and a sanding block to practice their sharpening skills.) The plastic Klecker knives were easiest to clean up after the soap carving (just add water!), and easiest to take apart (to let another group use them). Great knives--we highly recommend them! Review: Love these kits! - We were originally looking for a wooden DIY knife kit for our kids (ages 5 and 7) as a "stocking stuffer" for Christmas, when I stumbled across these. Since the wooden ones were all sold out, I figured they might be a good substitute. I have to say, we all have enjoyed them enormously! I like the bright colors as they are easier to find when "lost" by a child in the house, and each child can have a knife in their favorite color. The kids spent time sanding the edges of the pieces where they were removed from the sprue (the plastic frame that was part of the mold they come in), them assembled and disassembled them multiple times over the next few days. They are simple to put together, and a very fun educational toy. I plan on buying more, so we can mix and match colors, and so the adults can have a few also! We did have one problem in shipping which was not the business' fault - our package was delayed in the large "UPS Shipping Snafu" just before Christmas. We actually received a notice from Klecker Knives about it, as well as a personal follow-up email to make certain we had received our order. I appreciate the attention they gave to the shipping problem, and am more likely to give them my business because I had such a positive experience.

Fun, works well, good practice or starter knife for kids.
Cool little knife. Goes together in just a few minutes. It is not really a sharp plastic so you could sand it a bit. Some of the edges where the pieces come off off the plastic is sharp and would be good to sand them a bit. Also it doesn't "snap" together or anything. So it would be wise to use some glue perhaps. Opens and closes well. All-in-all I'm pretty happy with it and it's a good way for my kids to learn about knifes and knife safety.

Awesome Knife Kit for Adults and Children
When I first found out about the CRKT Nathan's Knife Kit (also a must to checkout)I thought what an interesting knife kit. A lock-back folder made from wood was cool but a lock-back folder made from plastic is awesome. "Trigger Knife Kits by Klecker Knives" are fun for adults and children alike. You can teach your children proper knife safety. Assembling the knife kit is also a fun project to do with with your children. It is a neat way to see how a lock-back knife works. Even as an adult putting this knife kit together and painting it reminded me of the models I used to assemble as a kid. It is fun for all ages. I would recommend a "Trigger Knife Kit by Klecker Knives" to anyone interested in a fun project for the family or if you just want to create a cool conversation piece.

knife saftey, taught safely.
These kits are great. the mix and match of different colors has got my son wanting to make a 'golden age batman' themed knife. yellow, blue, gray and black. and he got the glow in the dark one for fun. The best part is you can teach your children about knife making, engineering, and knife safety, all without sacrificing little fingers. The wood kits were great, and these are an improvement. They are smaller than the wood kits, to better fit little hands. The packaging keeps every little piece neatly organized until you need it. A fantastic product, and a great project for kids and adults alike. I find myself wanting one of my own, just to use as a letter opener. Great Job Glenn and Nathan!

Lock doesn’t last.
It is a cool concept, except the execution isn’t great. The plastic isn’t hard, so the locking mechanism, the interference between the bar and the mating feature on the blade, that feature on the bar gets sheared off after a few weeks. Still a cool toy, just not a very durable one.

Five Stars
My son has been begging for his own knife for about a year, but he's just too young for a sharp metal blade. This knife is a perfect training tool that helps teach safety and proper handling. The blade is not sharp, so there's no worry of accidental cuts, and the open/close mechanisms are sturdy. The knife can be put together by an adult in about a minute, but it was a nice 10-minute opportunity to sit down with my son and help him to assemble. We've had this for a few months, and there are still no quality issues. Definitely recommend!

Great knife kit!
I bought this plastic folder kit to teach my son about knife safety before I buy him a real knife. He really enjoyed helping me put it together. We were able to assemble it in less than 2 minutes. The knife stays together well and functions just like a real folding knife would. The glow-in-the-dark color is great for him at night. He is able to find it easily and make sure it's in his nightstand drawer where he was taught to keep it. If you're a parent with a young child who needs to learn about knife safety and proper handling, don't hesitate to buy this knife kit.
