Can this be painted with acrylic paints?

Does it dry like paper mache or like clay. Will it break like ceramic.

More like paper mache. It doesn't break so much as just doesn't hold together in large quantities.

'Food safe' relates to being safe to eat off of, and implies washable. The questioner may also want to know if it is dishwasher safe, oven safe or microwave safe as well.

can this be added to watercolor paper to add texture?

Yes. But it’s thick and hard dry. Golden acrylic bonding materials are inexpensive and come in a variety of Hardness’s. Easy to use. Experiment on discardable paint, paper first to get used to it. Use less than you thin you want at first. Learn the material. Not much else like it. Practice makes perfect. It is easy to work with.
