Rubieswomens Colonial Felt Bonnet

Perfect bonnet for a Christmas costume! I didn’t like the terrible bonnet that came with the costume I got and wanted something that was actually stiff and wouldn’t flop around. I dressed my family up at Charles Dickens-esque Christmas carolers for Halloween, and I needed a hat that wouldn’t annoy me as I walked around with my kids. This bonnet was ideal for that and fixed up beautifully when I decided to add some detail to it. It didn’t require detail added, but I like a touch of flair to my costumes. Hot glue held everything just fine as I was worried a needle on this material wouldn’t work at all. It would be a bit like trying to see detail on a rounded piece of cardboard. Skip the sewing and grab the glue gun! The bonnet was very comfortable and fit well over my head full of thick, curly hair.

This bonnet is for a church play during the Christmas season. It fits good and will be perfect with my costume to look like the pioneer days. I was so glad to find it and that it was reasonably priced. It's made very well and is sturdy like it should be. It's made out of heavy felt but is very comfortable because it's light on the head. It doesn't cover your face so therefore you can see quite well. I was happy that I'll be able to move around and sing without the bonnet getting in the way. Excellent choice for costuming!

It works well for being something simple and cheap, came in a box now all folded up so its sturdy and looks good. It will do the job!

The color and fit

As expected, this only comes in one size, and it's a bit too large for me. The price is very good. I will have to add a larger size of ribbon to make the correct size bow, as the ribbon that comes with it is not what women wore in the 1800s. But I need it for participating in the Dickens' Event.

I used this as a base for a regency bonnet since I only had a week to put an outfit together for a military through the ages event. Turned out great! I replaced the ties and decorated with ribbon. It looks cheap as is, but nicer than most costume quality pieces and makes a great base. If you're in a hurry and on a budget you'd be hard pressed to find a better option.

My daughter wore this in a performance of Pride and Prejudice. With all of her costume changes, this bonnet often was tossed into her show basket with other dresses, petticoats, shoes, and accessories piled on top of it. Regardless, it managed to hold its shape throughout the show's run, without being stiff, rigid, or uncomfortable. The fabric didn't pill or pull. Great accessory for theatre, halloween costumes, or just dress-up.

It sits way too far back on the head. You could see half my toboggan underneath. The ribbons are in the wrong place. I gave it 3 stars because I actually wore it at the event for two hours but had to consistently keep tugging on it for it to look right. Would not recommend.
