This painting was made with encaustic (pigment-rich pharmaceutical-grade beeswax mixed with damar resin), oil stick and gold metallic pigment (powdered), through a process of fusing, carving into, fusing again (with a butane torch, heat gun and heat lamp), and repeatedly shaping the areas of color. I use thermal energy, matter (the minerals in the pigment), air currents and the movement of wax from a liquid to a solid state. The details are dense and complex: it would be impossible to paint them in a conventional manner. The layers of beeswax add texture, depth and luminosity; the whole polishes to a shine. Painted on cradled birchwood panel, 2 inches deep (24x24x2), this work comes ready to hang, signed and dated on the back, and ships with a digital-registered Certificate of Authenticity so that it can be registered to you, the collector, then securely and transferred upon resale. The primary colors are deep cobalt violet, copper, azure, and cadmium red. There's some pearlized white and striations of gold. This is truly a unique and dynamic painting, one that will reward years of looking.
