Q: Does it measures the serum protein in calves?

It does have a serum/plasma protein scale on it. You have to use serum or plasma to get that value, not urine.

Q: How come I don't see any blue area? I used distilled water and wanted to calibrate , its all white when looking through eyepiece.!!

Yes the instructions are correct in that you use distilled water and then adjust the instrument using the knob on top. Distilled water has a Refractive Index (RI) of 1.333 and a Specific Gravity (SG) of 0. That is why 1.333 on the left side of the scale (the graduations labled "RI") line up with 0.000 on the right side of the scale (the grads labled "SG"). === !!!! NOT IN SUPPLIED INSTRUCTIONS!!!! ===== The first time you calibrate the instrument you may need to remove the rubber cap/cover from the adjust knob on top the device. Follow the calibration instructions exactly. If you cannot see a clear dividing line between Blue and White then very very gently and carefully use the supplied screwdriver to adjust the screw UNDERNEATH the knob's cover. =============================

Q: What is the difference between the two products retk-71 and retk-70?

I have the retk-71. It is a veterinaery refractometer that measures USG for dogs/large animals and cats (separate scales) as well as serum protein. The retk- 70 has one scale for USG (for humans, dogs, cats) and measures USG, serum protein and refractive index (don't know what that is). The ranges and divisions are different on the two refractometers (compare the specifications toward the bottom of each description). I use the retk-71 only for USG testing of my cats.

Q: Do I must use distilled water to calibrate the refractometer?

Do not use distilled water; a refractometer calibration liquid is required.
