Does its job, even on old, set-in rust stains.
I have "city" water, but I had started to get brown, rust-like stains appearing here and there on my white towels, like what I would see years ago, when we had well water. These stains would would not come out with any of the stain removing products, home remedies, bleach that I used. I was very upset, because the stains were ruining my expensive towels. As a last-ditch effort, I laundered the towels with some of my old Iron Out, using it as directed on the bottle. It complety removed all of the brown stains (the towels in question had been washed and dried repeatedly, so the stains were set in), and afterward, I made an effort to immediately remove the towels as soon as the cycle finished to prevent more stains from appearing, as I think my old washer's drum is rusted and it is what is causing the issue. You only need half a cup, and while the product doesn't smell good, you can toss in a pod once the whites have soaked for a bit, and they'll come out smelling as they usually do.

Best Rust Remover I’ve Found – Works in Plumbing, Pool Areas & Even Antique Metal
I’ve tried several rust removers over the years, including the more expensive leading brand, and this one performs just as well—if not better—at a noticeably better price point. Living in Florida, iron and rust are constant issues. I use this regularly in my water softener pre-filter system to manage iron buildup, and it does an excellent job breaking down residue without excessive scrubbing. It’s also been very effective in toilets where iron staining can get stubborn quickly. One area where it really impressed me was around the pool deck. We had rust stains forming from metal screws in paver areas, and this removed the discoloration without damaging the surrounding surface. I’ve even used it carefully on antique piano hardware and metal components, and it cleaned oxidation without being overly harsh when properly diluted and monitored. A few notes for best results: Follow the dilution instructions. Ventilate well (it has a strong odor). Test on delicate surfaces first. Overall, this has become my go-to rust treatment product. Excellent performance, versatile applications, and better value than the big-name alternative. Highly recommend.

From Orange Disaster to Bright White Again — This Stuff Saved Us
We just moved to a new house on well water… and let me tell you, I was NOT prepared for iron. At some point, my husband ran 3 full loads of brand-new white bathrobes and towels for our Airbnb. No one realized what was happening… until everything came out orange. Not slightly off-white — fully stained. About $400 worth of laundry. Brand new. We had never dealt with iron before (always had city water), so we didn’t even understand what it was. We tried everything: vinegar, baking soda, tons of bleach (of course), soaking items in the bathtub for hours and hours. Nothing worked. At that point — we were honestly desperate. Then we found Iron Out. And I don’t say this lightly — it felt like a miracle. Everything came back crisp white, like nothing ever happened. I couldn’t believe it. After that, we started testing it on other problem areas… • 40-year-old shower tile grout with ugly reddish stains — gone • Toilet bowls with iron buildup — just add, let it sit, wipe… no scrubbing It just works. The only thing to note: wear a mask (like N95) when using the powder — it’s very fine and you don’t want to inhale it. But honestly? This product saved our linens, saved us money, and now it’s something I always keep on hand. Absolute must-have if you have well water.

Really, really worked. Most of the rust came off first time from the toilet and just went over it again to take off the last traces.

Rust remover
That is the best for iron in toilets water. Dissolves the rust immediately. Have also used it on white clothes for iron stains. You have to monitor otherwise the decorative colors will be faded out. Best product on the market.
