3-Point Products Oval-8 Finger Splint, Size 5, Pack of 1, Beige

I injured my finger playing basketball, and had no idea why the tip of my ring finger was laying limp and couldn't straighten! I found out from my doctor that I had mallet finger, and it would take at least 8 weeks to heal and I would have to keep it completely straight the entire 8 weeks. It was summer time, and wearing a splint or a cast of any sort was the last thing I wanted to do. I first tried out different "mallet splints" but they were bulky and made it difficult to type on the computer, which is about 75% of my job every day. I found the Oval-8 splint online and reviewed it. The reviews were positive, but I was skeptical that it would stay on and provide the straight splinting that I needed all day. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! I first used the sizing chart provided by 3 Point Products website and youtube video, and purchased the 3-pack of splints to get the right size. I found the Size 5 fit best, even though the online sizing chart suggested size 4, which was way too tight. After wearing the size 5 for a while, I bought an extra one separately as a backup. After 8 weeks of wearing the product diligently, I took off the splint and my finger was straight and no more mallet finger! I still wear it occasionally when working out or doing activities with my hands, as well as night-splinting which was required by the Doc for 4 more weeks. Some notes to be aware of: --After washing and drying hands, the splint can get slippery, so be careful when drying your hands so it doesn't slide off. After your hands are dry, the slippery-ness is gone and no problems. --When lifting weights and playing golf, I used a different splint to provide more protection, but in a pinch I use the Oval-8 and wrap a lot of tape around it and it works well. --Typing was so easy with the Oval-8, and I barely could tell it was there most of the time. After a few weeks, I did develop a callous around the knuckle where it came in contact with skin, but nothing major. --It doesn't stand out like a bigger splint that has to be taped up, so people stopped asking me what was wrong! --I barely noticed it, and because there is no tape necessary, you didn't have to constantly take it off to change the wet tape out, or clean it off. Other splints got gross after a few days. Overall, very very satisfied with this product and would recommend to anyone with mallet finger to give it a try. Its the easiest splint to keep on at all times so you can recover as quick as possible.

My doctor gave me a size 6, which worked great day one. After the swelling went down the next day and the splint became loose, I called my doctor again but he was out of 5's. We tried a 4 but it was too small. I called multiple medical supply stores in the area but nobody carried it locally. Amazon to the rescue! I shimmed the 6 with a length of Popsicle stick until I received the replacement. Size 5 fit perfectly out of the box. Since these are made of thermal plastic, they can be spot heated and adjusted slightly to custom fit as needed, but I didn't resort to that. I think I might only trust my doctor to make that modification, anyway, given the cost of these things. These are available in graduated sets of 3 sizes, which might make sense for most people, especially if you haven't been sized by your doctor. The manufacturer has a downloadable printable sizing tool, which I used to validate the size I needed, but I imagine it might not be perfect for everyone. Typical splints are obtrusive, cumbersome and tend to get dingy, especially if taped to secure them. With these, once you have a good fit, you can pretty much forget it's there. Wear it to sleep, shower and wash your hands without removing it. It stays put and keeps your knuckle extended. I'm on my second of eight weeks in this splint and I often forget it's there. I can assume the remaining six weeks will be the same. It seems durable enough that it can be used intermittently or continuously beyond the prescribed 8 weeks, if necessary. Most online images display it worn upside-down. Wear it with the band up and the oval down (palm side) to keep your finger from flexing. I keep mine slightly offset to allow the sensitive side of my joint to barely protrude from the oval. Apparently, the sizing is different depending on which end you slide on, so if it's not immediately comfortable, try the other end. I had a tough time shelling out over 10 bucks for one little piece of plastic, but I don't regret it at all. Perhaps the cost will come down when these things catch on, like I think they should. Still, you might want to talk to your doctor first to see if it's right for you.

Sizing is a little hard to guess but the product works well for mallet finger. Much better to use than a wrapped splint. Half sizes are uncomfortable due to the design of the middle piece. It will create a much smaller pressure point due to the sloped design. The product also assumes you're getting it sized by a doctor, so some of the adjustments per the company can't be done. I wish my doctor had used these versus a wrapped splint that can't get wet. Best use is probably after the initial few weeks, but they might work all the way through.

The fit is just okay, the price is way to high for a only mediocre aide. Had difficulty getting the product and thought it would work better. I had a small finger injury, mallet finger, and expected this to work better. It slips off of the finger if you use the hand. I had to get Amazon assistance to get this and was very put out. Order only at your own risk and maybe your cost.

I have mallet finger, which is a jammed finger. It was caused by too much bending over a period of time of the first joint from the tip of my middle right finger. I managed to do it a little at a time (by knitting, if you can believe that) rather than getting hit hard on the end of my finger and getting it all at once. Don't keep doing something if it hurts! It tore the ligament between the first two joints on that finger on the top of my finger (the part that's outside when you make a fist). This splint can be worn for a lot of different problems in a lot of different positions. If yours doesn't come with a paper diagramming how to wear it for different problems, check on the internet. My comments are about mallet finger, but might also apply generally. My splint is very tight on my finger, but even so, I've found some situations where I'm doing something that catches in the splint, and it gets pulled off. I've usually solved this by putting a bit of medical adhesive tape over the single center spot of it. The splint is small, and hard to see, so if you take one off for any reason, it's hard to find. I lost one that way, and ordered another to replace it, but was lucky enough to find the original before the replacement even arrived). I've since lost the original one while I was trying to pull something out of a package. I pulled, and the stuff came out and yanked the splint off my finger along with the package. I haven't found it this time, but still might. My advice, if you have to wear it for a long time is to get an extra or two. It seems to take about 6 weeks for a ligament to heal, so I'm still going to be wearing one for a while. Plus, I keep trying to do things, and making it worse in spite of the splint, although the splint makes it hard to hurt it. The splint that I bought for at night arrived today, and they come in sets of three, so you can rotate splints. Having several splints seems like a good idea. It seems like it's going to be a good one to use at night to sleep in, but I've only had it for a few hours. It's an Auerbach Mallet Splint, and Amazon has them. But I like the plastic splint for during the day. You can do more with it without further injuring you finger, and it's waterproof. The aluminum with foam one I bought at the drugstore is good for sleeping in, except that it tends to slide off if I move in my sleep. The Auerbach splint doesn't seem like it could be pulled off easily. It's tight enough that I want to take it off at night because it's hard and the center section presses hard against that joint and makes it hurt if I wear it for an extended period of time. I've been using a more conventional splint to sleep in, but that wants to slide off. I just got a different splint to wear at night, but I'm going to continue to wear this during the day. It's convenient that you can wash your hands, and get it wet without hurting it. I can even still knit with it on, but am trying not to knit much. Anyway, this is an excellent splint for mallet finger, and it allows you to use the finger and do things, for the most part.

I don't know if this works or not, because it didn't fit. I measured accurately, and the chart is off by 1/4" at least. I'm not willing to pay extra for a variety of sizes just in case one of them fits. I'll find another treatment.

I have been T1D since birth and have developed trigger finger quite badly in almost all 10 appendages. I have tried all types of braces and splints and during the night, I rip them off some how. These splints are perfect and I am grateful someone came up with these. I will wear these for days without ache or bother. They do not allow your knuckle to bend. They also seem to be straightening out my crooked fingers from this. I bought smaller sizes for my lower knuckles and pinkies. I wish they made this for the wrist also. My Doctor told me the only way to recover from this and ease the pain is by keeping my knuckles immobile. She said I must hold out and do this for a month at the very least. I have giant braces for this and I will not wear them. I showed her these Oval8s and she told me if I can stand to wear them, they should work just fine. So far they work as I was hoping they would. When I take them off, however, it is difficult to bend my knuckles, as I am not supposed to be doing anyway, and the pain swells up right away. OH! One end is somehow different from the other. This makes the splint differently if you turn it around.

I sprained my finger, and during therapy my fingernail didn't want to go the same way as the finger, so began to curve the other way. My therapist said "oh no you don't"" sent for this little plastic ring (I got 2) which was designed to fit on end of my finger affected, keeping the nail tightly adhered to the finger so it couldn't separate and go its own way. The ring was small, plastic, and could be twisted and turned to fit any size finger. It wasn't pain free (fitted snugly), but I wore it several hours daily for 6 weeks. When done with therapy my finger was straight, nail was healthy and firmly attached to it. Wonderful little gadget, and I highly recommend the medical catalofg, and the ring.

It was delivered on the first day of the expected delivery timeframe. The splint was ordered for my mother who has been suffering painful trigger finger. First day of using it brought relief.

I wanted to like the product but put it on to test for fit and how well it splinted for a mallet finger (using it for a tuft fx) and it was so fragile it broke. Too fragile to offer true splinting or support.
