We mix them up, placing 4 of each bait in each bait station, two rods with the Peanut Butter on the Bottom and Apple on the Top, and two rods reversed. Not sure if it helps, but the rats disappeared pretty darn fast and stay gone as long as I remember to check and refill the bait stations. Additionally, these baits have what's known as a first generation rodenticide which while effective on rats , etc., have less risk to birds and larger animals that may eat a rat that has partaken of the poison bait. Could a squirrel get in?** A: You feeling like you need to kill squirrels is ridiculous.. unless you're going to eat them? but this is a bait station they eat the bait and die later. it takes the mice a long time to die from this, from what I've heard, so I'm pretty sure it's not going to be as effective on a squirrel. You don't need to kill squirrels though.
