Which works better, brain octane oil or MCT 100%?

as i said in response to another question here, MCT is synthesized, real coconut oil isn't. furthermore, real coconut oil contains lauric acid, its main component, which is absent from all MCT products. C8 may be beneficial--and as a current user of Brain Octane, i can vouch for its efficacy, truly amazing--but if you get only C8, you are missing out on all the other wonderful fatty acids contained in coconut oil, especially lauric acid. here's an article that explains it well: http://healthimpactnews.com/2014/mct-oil-vs-coconut-oil-the-truth-exposed/

How much is a serving ? How many servings per bottle?

a "serving" is usually listed as a tablespoon so in a 16oz bottle there are 32 tablespoons .. having said that, a serving as a practical matter is based on tolerance .. MCT can cause gastro distress .. best to start slow, maybe a teaspoon to see how you react, then increase up to 3 tablespoons a day .. In one study 22 grams (about a tablespoon and a half) was the therapeutic dose used to see improvement in Alzheimer's patients ..

My bottle states very clearly "Ingredients: Caprylic acid triglycerides from highly refined coconut oil" and "Contains no palm oil." The Bulletproof website also states "100% caprylic acid triglycerides from coconut oil". Now on my third 16oz. bottle and am completely satisfied with this product, we use 1 or 2 teaspoons in our morning coffee along with a teaspoon of Ancient Organics Ghee (clarified butter, 100% organic and freshly made in Berkeley CA). Best. Coffee. Ever.

Do you refrigerate after opening?

Genuine mct oil should NOT solidify (like coconut oil) when refrigerated. NOW brand MCT oil is the only brand that I have purchased that dies not solidify when refrigerated so I’m sticking to that brand. Sure NOW brand is not purely caprylic acid but it slides the claim to be.

I started using Bullet MCT oil on August 2025, and I like the taste—it's smooth and not greasy. I’m hopeful it works well for me. However, I’ve noticed a concern: no matter how I position the bottle, whether pouring into a spoon or a cup, the oil tends to leak down the sides of the bottle, making a mess on the table or floor. After reading through Amazon reviews, I learned that the twist cap bottle, which I have, is the cause of this issue. Thankfully, the new bottles now feature a flip cap. I’m glad I bought the 3oz size because, for every tablespoon or two I use daily, a significant amount ends up wasted on the table.

Found this on a Reddit post in regards to seborrheic dermatitis. I have it on my scalp, hairline and ears. This mixed with a bit of tea tree oily has significantly decreased my flare ups. Daily I take a Q tip and soak, and wipe around mentioned areas, also use as a sheen for my hair (I am African American) so my hair texture needs a lot of moisture. I’m so thankful to find this as it doesn’t feed Malassezia. Has no smell & a little goes a long way.

It woke me up kinda fast and gets rid of brain fog. Only down side is that it might make you a little gassy or poop faster. Not that bad though. I mixed it in with my coffee and I don’t think I could taste it at all

Fix the darn cap! This review is about the 3 Oz size. I have no issues with the oil itself. But c'mon guys, charge an extra 50 cents and put on a cap that allows dispensing without dribbling out 15% of the product. The oil is fine and the science is strong. I even bought a follow-up 16 ounce bottle. It has a spout top. But Jeeze, that 3 oz bottle is a disaster.
