do any of these fittings work on a zerk that is down in a u-joint and a regular fitting won't go in the tight space?

If you get the shaft in an appropriate position there are a couple of the fittings that work really well. Hope this helps I like the kit and use it all the time some of the adapters I have not needed yet but imagine I will at some point.

I just got my set and i'm not sure how to hook the 90 to my gun

Pull the spring collar back a little bit and while holding it attach put it on your grease gun's fitting and let loose of the spring collar.

No, this product just has different tips and adapters. Best way to clean the fitting is spray with soapy water and wipe off with a rag. The spring loaded ball on the fitting should prevent dirt from getting inside. If you want, they are very easy to remove. Most require a 5/16 or 3/8 wrench. Just unscrew it and clean it with warm soapy water and a q-tip under the sink.
