Q: Does it have a smell?

Smells like stale cigarette smoke or an ash tray. Will not buy again. I couldn’t figure out what was causing the smell for months and it was very obnoxious. One day, I got a wiff just as I was applying it and then smelled the applicator and all of the bottles. It was definitely the product and I immediately threw it away. Gross.

Q: how often do you use if you want to grow new hair on top of head? I've also read it's best to mix it w/ oil like argan, olive, almond? which is best?

I use it twice a week for thining hair not sure about growing hair.I use it directly on my scalp and I do not mix it with other oils.I have noticed that I'm not losing much hair after the use of castor oil.

Q: Just received the black Jamaican castor oil. Is it supposed to be thick like maple syrup? I thought it would be way more watery and easier to spread.

Yes it’s very thick. Don’t know if you are using in your hair but what I do is put some in my hands and rub together than massage into scalp and hair.
