Donner Triple Looper Guitar Effect Pedal | Loop Pedal with Screen, 3 Loops 30 mins Looping Time, Unlimited Overdubs Undo/Redo True Bypass

Having toyed with the idea of owning a looper pedal for the longest of times, I finally decided to take the plunge. There are so many loopers out there on the marketplace; all with varying degrees of sophistication and of course, prices to match. The ones I’d seen and read about had loop maximums of 30 or 40 seconds, some slightly more, some less, and then I came across the Donner Triple Looper. The Donner Looper is about as simple to operate as they get, but what really had me hook, line and sinker, was that, not only did it have three separate recording banks (hence the ‘Triple Looper’) but boasted of unlimited overdubs. With these credentials, and given what I’d gleaned from the specs of other pedals, I was genuinely expecting something in the region of 100 quid. Well, not a bit of it, this wee beauty tips the scales at a penny under 56 quid and I reckoned I’d have been insane not to grab this looper – and so I did. Power to this pedal is via a 9 volt power supply which is not included in the purchase, but bear in mind that, apart from the low cost of this looper, if you have other pedals then the chances are you already have the power pack and your other pedals are daisy chained together. This is a true bypass pedal so that when the pedal is off (bypass mode), the signal from the guitar is routed directly to the amp without interference. It is also a very small pedal which in no way detracts from its capabilities as a looper although some might feel, because of its size, that the bank selector switch and the volume output control, are a bit on the tiny side. Me? I just think they’re perfect. As small as it is, the screen is very readable and definitely bright enough to see even in the dimmest of venues. Entire control of the looper is down to the solitary footswitch and works as follows; Stomp: 1st Starts loop record 2nd Plays loop 3rd Records overdub 4th Plays loop By repeating steps three and four you can build up an unlimited amount of overdubs and by applying two rapid clicks you will stop the loop playing, one more click starts the loop playing again. If during an overdub you should make a mistake, you can undo that overdub by clicking once whilst in play mode and the screen will read ‘UNDO’, if you change your mind and want to reinstate that overdub press the switch one more time and the screen will read ‘REDO’, but remember you must be in play mode for this to happen. If you intend to completely clear out all overdubs from a track you must stop the looper, hold down the switch for 2-3 seconds and the screen should then read ‘EMPTY’. Travelling around the circumference of the small screen, during playback and overdub, an animated indicator shows you where the loop starts and where it ends. This adds greatly to the accuracy when laying one track on top of another. On any one of the three tracks, which you can select from using the right hand switch, you can have a recording time of thirty minutes, giving you a total of 90 minutes. This is incredible specs for a 56 quid looper especially once you’ve heard the clarity with which this pedal reproduces your sounds. In summary, this looping game takes a fair bit of practice and I’m getting there, although I don’t think I’ll be showing off my skills with the pedal on stage anytime soon. I’ve been playing guitar as my main instrument for half a century and it’s been a long time since I’ve had this much fun with a pedal. Go get one, you know it makes sense. Recommended.

I have owned several loopers (including one other Donner model) and they all have different features and options, but no matter what, they are all incredibly useful. Loopers will help you practice your harmony, timing and creativity like nothing else. This looper has 3 tracks of 30 minutes each (thus, the "triple looper"), plus a fantastic, very bright display (OLED?) that shows you where you are in the loop's cycle. This alone makes this pedal stand out! Did you ever wonder if you just played over 3 or 4 sets of a 4 bar progression? A very clear graph around the edge of the display as well as a display of the time will help you know for sure. The controls are simple, one soft-touch (non-latching) button will do almost everything. To begin, press the switch once - it will start recording. A second tap will stop recording and auto play your loop. A quick double-tap will stop. While playing, press once to start or stop overdub. When playing, and you inevitably goof up an overdub, just hold down the switch for a full second and it will undo the last recorded overdub. If you want to use this in a musical context instead, you can also redo the overdub, so you can briefly remove a layer for a section of the song and restore it later. The simplicity of one-button control does have one downside. For live performing, it's often useful to lay down chords, end the loop and immediately start overdubbing. Since a double-tap is stop, you can't - you have to tap to stop recording, then pause slightly and then tap again to overdub. The designers of this pedal have shortened the pause necessary so you can do it with only a very short gap at the beginning of the dub, but as a result to stop the loop you have to make a very quick double-tap. You will probably find yourself overdubbing when you intended to stop. You need to practice! There are two other controls. One is volume - and thankfully this is the LOOP volume and not a MASTER volume! This means you can live adjust a loop to match your overdub if it's overpowering or too quiet, and yep it happens all the time. You can also use this to fade out loops, if you can get your toe to work that way. Your input signal will not be affected. There's a nice little rubber hood around the mini pot knob that gives you a little extra grip. The last control is a toggle switch that lets you choose 3 different tracks to work with. Unfortunately, they can not be used simultaneously - you can't switch in and out sections of a live performance this way. When you flip the switch, it stops (and saves) the current loop but does not automatically start the next one. This is a minor inconvenience, given the strengths of the pedal... instead of a "track" it might be good to think of it as a "save slot". With that being said - there is no file transer ability with this pedal - and is probably the biggest con to this design. Many other pedals have USB or SD card interfaces, this one is purely audio, the only I/O are the audio jacks.. While you could load 3x30 minute tracks on this pedal to back a full set, getting the tracks into the pedal would be slow and frustrating. That being said, I would rather have the partially implemented feature than not have it at all. Bottom line, YES this pedal is well worth the (low) price. It has an incredible amount of power and value in a tiny footprint.

I really enjoyed using the looper pedal by Donner. Once again this brand delivers an excellent product at an extremely low price point! The controls are very easy to use, though I did notice a slight difference in sound quality when being played back through my amp, not too bad though. I removed a star because I noticed another persons pre recordings were saved to the device but that’s hardly a complaint. I would definitely buy again!
