Delkin Devices Fat Gecko Mini Suction Camera Mount (Ddmount-Mini)

I have had this item for a little over 2 weeks now. Do NOT PURCHASE this item. The suction cup is rigid and strong, but the adjusters are extremely weak. It doesn't matter how tight you fasten them, it loosens with the vibrations of the vehicle. Poor quality!

La ventouse colle vraiment super fort. Pied de très bonne qualité. Je l'utilises pour une GoPro et il est largement meilleur que celui proposé par GoPro car beaucoup plus facilement orientable. De plus avec le rajout on peut avoir le trépied long ou court.

I bought this item to hold a Go Pro and a Sony CX360 Handycam in a car. With the Go Pro attached to it , there is virtually no movement or vibration whatsoever and the picture is as good and stable as it can be. I used it inside and outside, on flat and curved surfaces and it did it's job everytime. Holding it in hand gives the feeling of a well constructed device, in a solid material. The articulations allow to put the camera in any position, and the extention arm allows more possibilities. Used with the Sony CX 360 Handycam, the weight of this one in a car is more delicate, and you may see your camcorder shaking a bit when driving on bumps and other irregularities of the tarmac, specially if the extension arm is mounted. I think that due to the increasing weight, the system should be extended to more suction points and arms to secure the whole thing. I installed the handycam behind the windscreen, suspended upside down, and it was obviously vibrating, but, by adding some foam, or a pair of winter gloves or whatever you have between the dashboard and the camcorder, all vibrations stop and you get a fantastic picture of the moving road. I have not tried it with a DSLR on a moving support, and I don't think it's a good idea. On a fixed support however, for a short moment, It's probably ok. I am very happy with this purchase and I would recommend it to anyone for use with a light equipment.

Eigentlich wissen wir ja alle das Geckos keine Saugnäpfe an den Füssen haben. Trotzdem hat das Delkin Gecko mini einiges mit dem kleinen Reptil gemein. Einmal angebracht hält es fast in jeder Lage. Ich habe es angeschafft, da ich auf der Suche nach einem kleinen und praktischen Stativ für die Reise war. Es sollte kein Ein-, Drei-, oder Vierbein sein, sondern ein universell einsetzbares und gleichzeitig klein und platzsparendes Stativ, das schnell aufgebaut und ebenso schnell wieder verstaut ist. Gerade Mehrbeinstative sind beim Motorradfahren sehr unpraktisch, weil selbst kleine Exemplare, ein recht sperriges Packmaß haben. Mein Vorrezensent brachte mich mit seinem Video auf die Idee, das Gecko enmal auszuprobieren. Als Reisekamera nutze ich die DP1s und die Panasonic GF-1. Beide passen locker auch in einen kleinen Tankrucksack. Das Gecko bringt mit 8x8x10cm ein sehr kompaktes Packmaß mit und ist somit auch für die kleinsten Tanktaschen geeignet. Die ideale Kombination. Das Stativ kommt sehr sparsam verpackt zum Kunden. Der Ersteindruck ist gut. Sämtliche Stellschrauben sehen sehr stabil und wertig aus. Der Kugelkopf mitsamt seinem Halter sind aus einer vertrauenserweckenden Alulegierung gefertigt. Der Halter ist mittels eines justierbaren Gelenks an der Grundplatte gefestigt. Zusätzlich legt Delkin noch eine Verlängerung für den Stativarm bei. Etwa 60mm bringt diese Verlängerung und macht das Delkin flexibler. Der dazu nötige Imbusschlüssel ist im Lieferumfang enthalten. Um die Befestigung zu gewährleitsen ist unter der stabilen, 85mm großen Stativplatte eine Gummischeibe. Mittels Druckknops und einem Feststellhebel wird so die Verbindung zum Untergrund hergestellt. Natürlich muß die Oberfläche glatt und eben sein. An lackierten Kunststoff oder Metallteilen ist das kein Problem. Mein Tipp: Prima ist, immer einen Lappen zur Hand zu haben, um die Befestigungsfläche, sowie auch den Stativgummi kurz abwischen zu können. Obwohl die Gummischeibe(Silikon?) relativ dick ist, kann ein kleines Teil die stabile Verbindung zwischen Stativ und Untergrund negativ beeinflussen. Ist das Stativ an der Kamera angebracht geht die Handhabung blitzschnell. Stativ mit Druckknopf andrücken, verriegeln, fertig. Nun die Kamera mittels der Einstellschrauben und des Kugelkopfes justiert und schon ist man aufnahmebereit. Egal ob für Foto oder Video. Auch ich habe das Delkin sowohl stationär wie am Motorrad bereits getestet. Es hält. Bis zu 1,81 Kg Belastbarkeit gibt Delkin als Grenze an. Damit habe ich weder mit meiner GF-1 noch mit der Sigma DP1s ein Problem. Auch eine stabilisierte Nachtaufnahme mit einem Weitwinkel und einer ausgewachsenen DSLR ist somit kein Thema. An das Stativgewinde können auch andere Halter angebracht werden. Vom Navigationssystem bis zum Blitzgerät(über einen Stativfuß mit Gewinde) ist alles denkbar. Kurz und Knapp Positives: + stabil + vielseitig und durchdacht + Haftfähigkeit + Funktionalität und Flexibilität + zügiger Auf- und Abbau + Zubehör + Ausstattung + Kompaktheit Negatives: - nicht ganz billig Mein Fazit: Ein universelles Stativ das für viele Gelegenheiten eine Lösung ist. Für meinen Zweck ist es ziemlich gut. Es hilft mir nicht überall, aber für die meisten Eventualitäten. Es ist superfunktionell, schnell auf und abgebaut. Prima für unterwegs. 5 von 5

I started riding motorcycles about a year ago. And because I was travelling to all kinds of places I didn't before, I wanted to capture the memories on video. So I had 3 options: put a camera in my helmet, get a Go Pro, or get something to attach my camera to the bike. I tried putting the camera in the helmet. The footage was great and I could talk into the camera mic, but I didn't like how the camera blocked some of my vision. Next was the Go Pro. Great little device. I just didn't want to spend $150 on a camera when I already had a perfectly good one. So, I looked into camera mounts and found the Fat Gecko Mini. I've had the mount for about six months. I've ridden about 6,000 miles with the mount on the bike (ZX-6R). Some rides lasted 8+ hours. I've taken it to the track 3 times. And I have done 145 mph with the camera mounted. Not once has the mount fell off, felt loose, or became unstable. It is an amazing little thing. For most of my rides, I placed the mount on my tank behind the windscreen. I really wanted to place it on the front of the bike or the side. But honestly, I thought that it would get pulled off by the wind. About 2 weeks ago, I find got the courage to place it on the front of the bike, with no wind protection. It performed flawlessly! The ride lasted for 7 hours. I didn't take it off the entire time. I can't tell you how nervous I was for the first hour of the ride. After that, I didn't even think about it. My only negative comment about the mount is the extension. I can not use it on the motorcycle. There is just too much vibration from the road. If it were on a non-moving surface or inside of a vehicle, I have no doubt that there would be very little vibration in the camera footage. Any hand-held camera which can attach to a tripod (most cameras) can be mounted on the Fat Gecko Mini. I wouldn't put a camcorder or camera over 2 pounds on it when mounting on the outside of a vehicle. That's just asking for trouble. But everything else, go for it! So save some money and get one. You won't be disappointed.
