All the features needed for a knitter or crafty person wanting less disturbance to partner at night time.
Love love love it!!!! As a knitter who loves to sit with husband at night time and knit whilst we watch whatever on television we used to have to sit in basically as strong a light as we have in our lounge room. Obviously this is not ideal for your partner and also for yourself to bask in such strong light at night time when you are supposedly winding down from your day. So I looked and looked for a side lamp that could magnify as well as providing a more direct light sauce - my search led me to the Brightech lamp. The reviews were consistently excellent particularly regarding the sturdiness and the general overall manufacture (not too flimsy) and as I really wanted to be able to dim the light so the dimmable feature was also much wanted. Package arrived very well padded and packed and light was easy to set up. Only thing I forgot to think about was that obviously comes with American plug so I needed an adaptor for Australian power - too easy! I also really like being able to change the light from warm to cool so the actual light feels and looks different. The magnification is ideal for me ( I wear glasses for close up work also) and that combined with the direct light is fabulous for knitting especially when you make a mistake! I really feel like this product meets all my requirements plus it doesn't look too "work like" is as stylish as it could be probably - base is heavy enough to not have any wobble in the light head and the cord is a decent length. So overall I am very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend to others looking for a craft light with magnification.

Enthusiastic Recommend For this Lamp!
I loved my old desktop magnifier lamp, and I was set to buy a new one, which runs around $35, so when I saw this one, the only reason I didn't pass on it, was the stellar reviews. I was looking to get another desk-clamp style, but was intrigued with this floor/desk hybrid. The base is such that it would take up a significant amount of desk space, which I could afford, but it turns out it's entirely unnecessary. This stays well out of my way as a floor lamp, and is adjusted to shine just how I like it. The ability to adjust the color temperature is just incredible. I'm an artist, and I make it a point to mimic daylight temperatures in my studio. With this lamp, I turn it on and touch the up-arrow on the cool until it's fully-on, and I'm set to go.The light is good but not overly strong, so it doesn't wash out my art, even at full-on- this means it's a great work light for detail-oriented projects... you can see everything you want to see with great lighting and magnification. Specifically very detailed sculpting, drawing, and painting. It's perfect. I'm using it in concert with ceiling and umbrella-style lights to give me just the setup I need. Does exactly what I hoped. The magnification is crystal clear and nice and large. The arm is surprisingly solid, sets well (no fussing over springs that retract when you try for a sweet spot), and is articulated quite well.At the beginning I brought up a price point- my previous desktop lamp was a great buy at ~$35, but ultimately became useless due to cheap parts (a metal fixture that the lamp articulated from broke apart). I have no fear of this lamp suffering that issue. It appears very well made.If I were to seek out cons, it would simply speak to the articulation- which, again, works quite well, but (and this could be user error), I have not been able to swivel/rotate the lamp head as I would like. I have to re-position the entire rig to accommodate the angle I would like. I will look at it again and report back here if I'm simply missing out an adjustment. This small drawback is nowhere near reason enough to drop a star or stop me from enthusiastically recommending this product.

Great Magnifying lamp with lots of versatility
As other reviews have indicated this is a great lamp. This also converts to a floor lamp but I will only comment on the desktop aspects. The ability to control the brightness level and color temperature are unique and represent the state of the art in LED technology. An actual glass lens is a real bonus for clarity. The 3 diopter lens (1.75 X) magnification is ideal for 90% of applications. With an engineering background and a passion for photography I'm kind of persnickety about optics and construction quality. Both of which are very good in this lamp. So, just a few comments about a very good product :> Construction - I was immediately put off when I inserted the apx. 1/2" dia. post of the lamp into the base. The post is 50 mils ( almost 1/16") smaller then the hole in the base. This allows the arms of the lamp to "wiggle" around in the base causing a sloppy feeling between the two. Note : this does not in any way limit the function of the product, just kind of a nitpick on my part. I resolved that "problem" by applying 2 strips of 3/4" wide Velcro, fuzzy side, vertically to the post (Photo attached). This made a perfect light pressure sliding fit between the lamp post and the base. It eliminated all the slop, provided a little more of a friction fit and an almost ball bearing like feel to the rotation of the lamp.> Optics - As a general rule - the higher the magnification the closer the lens must be to the object your working on and the acceptable focus range/distance becomes smaller or more critical. I.e. A 5 diopter 2.25X lens must be closer to the work then this lamps 3 diopter 1.75X magnification lens Since its important to have working room under the lens FYI I decided to take some measurements. These measurements are not in any way scientific, just thought they might be of interest. With normal corrected eyeglasses - max sharp image distance 12 inches Min distance 8 inchesNote you can increase magnification slightly by looking thru reading glasses. My bifocal glasses are 3x and the resulting distances are :With 3x bifocal - Max sharp image distance 8 inches Min distance 5 inchesAs others have concluded, this is a great lamp with ideal optics for most uses. As a desktop device it does take up space on the desk but has the advantage of being able to be moved at will without having to unplug it from a industrial type mount used by alternate type devices. On a wood bench you can eliminate the base by simply drilling 1/2 inch holes in convient locations. Hope this of some help in your buying decision.
