An excellent frother. Simple and easy to operate
An excellent frother. Simple and easy to operate. Comes with a frothing and heating disk. It has three temperature selections: a hot, warm, and cold depending on your intended beverage. Hot is best for froth. Warm is especially nice with a hot chocolate preparation using heating disk, cold for iced lattes or coffees. The unit is aesthetically appealing on the countertop and makes nice, thick meringue-like froth; best froth is made with 1% or 2% milk as higher fat content milks do not froth as well. Soy and almond milks will produce a much less dense froth with bubbles. Milks must be cold. Very pleased with the unit's operation which makes a slight whirring sound in use. Allow about 4 minutes to produce froth and be sure to put enough milk at or above the minimum line on the glass pitcher, but not to exceed pitcher markings which would cause overflow. With first use it is especially difficult to separate the frothing piece from the its mountingdevice into the glass pitcher; a strong tug will remove it for more thorough cleaning after use. Jura manufacturer Customer Service was excellent for addressing any questions or replacing parts if found defective. Glass pitcher has a slight design flaw; any milk that drips down the exterior of pitcher when pouring catches between where the glass and side metal rim of the bottom heating plate of the pitcher meet, making this a difficult place to reach to clean but it is not a significant problem and does not affect operation. Extra rinsing generally cleans this if milk is not left to dry. Similarly, recommend cleaning the interior of glass pitcher promptly so that milk does not dry on the interior non-stick surface as otherwise it is more difficult to clean.

All I Can Say is WOW!!!
My first try was not only a success but probably the best cappuccino I have ever had. Easy, easy, easy, so simple a cave man could do it (no disrespect to cavemen). My only complaint . . . the best cup of cappuccino I ever had came from this funky little coffee shop in Flagstaff Arizona that serves espresso in these great big (wide) coffee mugs. This beats it by a long shot. Starbucks can't even come close to this either.A few years back I spent a lot of money on a Breville Espresso machine. It makes a mean espresso but the steamer is actually kind of lame. Now I have the complete package.Something that hasn't been mentioned is that you can use chocolate milk in it. Do you believe that? I'm not talking the powder (although you can do that too). But actual chocolate milk. Who woulda thunk? My second cup: I added my vanilla syrup to the milk before frothing and boy oh boy, this stuff is so good.If you are tired of getting weak and limpy milk from the steamer attached to your espresso machine, give this a try, you won't be sorry.

Looks cool but not the best design
The TEC made good froth in the beginning but the odd shape of the bottom made it difficult to clean. After 30 days of use it is starting to make loud noises and is not heating properly. This one is going back

Works fine ... for awhile
I bought one of these for my home and one for the office. Both worked well for awhile. I used the one for home daily for less than a year. I rarely use the one at the office. Cleaning is a major issue. The one at home simply fell apart. I think there are better products producing froth and properly heated milk.

Grinding noise towards the end of the frothing cycle
Recently, I purchased several Capresso 206.05 Froth TEC Automatic Milk Frothersby Capresso as gifts for friends because I love this product after using the earlier versions. I really like the glass jar on this model and it works very efficiently. HOWEVER, towards the end of the cycle on my unit, a very loud grinding noise begins every time I use it. I keep it clean. On all previous models, I have had, this has never occurred. I sincerely hope this is not the case for the gifts I gave recently to friends. I think I have a defective model -- for this price, I should not hear GRINDING noises. IF THIS WERE NOT MAKING THIS NOISE, I WOULD GIVE FIVE STARS ACROSS THE BOARD.

Capresso: Froth Pro vs. Froth TEC, a personal story
Last year I purchased two Capresso Froth Pro machines (one for home, one for work). About two months ago one of them stopped working. I sent it back to the factory (had to pay the shipping myself) and they replaced the unit. Shortly thereafter, the second Froth Pro started making worrying noises. Then I saw the Froth TEC and decided to buy one to see (I"m not generally this compulsive about milk froth, but the mailing was about 1/3 the cost of the unit.) Anyway, the TEC arrived a couple of weeks ago and over-all I have to say it is a better machine. The froth it produces is close to the texture of meringue. Ideal in my book! The Froth Pro never did produce such a dense texture. The TEC does so every time. There are two things, however, that keep me from giving this machine five stars. First, it takes quite a bit longer than the Pro to do its job. For me, the quality is worth the wait, but others may not care to wait. My second reservation has to do with cleaning. About the fourth day in, the machine turned on and then turned immediately off. Several times. Oh no, said I, a poor product. So I took it apart and noticed that there was still some milk left over under the gizmo that actually does the frothing. I think what happens is that milk, which has some sugar in it, sticks to the bottom of the unit, which then heats up right away, and the temperature sensing device thinks it is finished. It was nasty to clean up that first time, I must admit. But my suspicion was right enough that a good cleaning with a little non-scratching scrubber fixed that problem. Since then, using a long-handled brush, I have cleaned out the remaining milk thoroughly before enjoying my latte, and, so far at least, it has been easy to do, and the froth perfect. I have yet to put the container in the dishwasher, as this instant cleaning works just fine. I guess it's akin to the barista wiping down the steam spout at the coffee shop--just a bit more complicated is all. So, bottom line.... If you put in the little effort to keep things cleaned up, and don't mind waiting a tad longer, the TEC is about perfect. The next thing I'll be watching is how long a life it has. Check back in a year.
