Awesome DTV Documentary
Picked this up after seeing that Nightmare USA by Thrower had been reprinted. It seemed like a good visual follow-up. Awesome documentary! I recommend it to anybody who's been that kid at the video store, judging books by covers and getting surprised every now and then. It's got a lot of the ladies you remember from the 80's and 90's indie horror films, many of which were direct to video and available only at the video store. This fleshes out a bunch, gives many interviews with folks like Brinke Stevens, Fred Olen Ray, Linnea Quigley. Mainstays in horror forever. A worthy addition and window into a funner time in movie history.

A Nice Companion to IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS
DIRECT TO VIDEO is a nostalgic look at the era of Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, and the end of the independent movie rental industry, with a focus on how the business and the format of media changed how movies were made and how they could be seen. This is a clipshow-style documentary interspersed with a lot of interviews from actors, directors, and other folks actually involved in it at the time, so while you're getting a lot of first-hand accounts, it's not always necessarily as tightly focused as it could be.If you're familiar with the 80s horror documentary series IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS, this is a great companion, picking up pretty where that one leaves off and continuing your journey into horror cinema as it approached the new millennium.
