Procom Cdi/rev Box

I rode my little cousin's Yamaha Raptor 50 and it was a complete dog. No acceleration, no throttle response and no top end. The thing would drive around the yard at 6 mpg bouncing of the rev limiter. It couldn't even get out of its own way. I would seriously push myself along with my foot like riding a scooter. The quad sucked.I did a little research on the interwebz. First, I cut the carb slide and modified the thumb throttle to allow for 100% wide open throttle. Factory, the baby 50 is limited to about 50% throttle. No real improvement. Next, I opened up the clutch housing and removed 4 of the orignal 12 metal clutch balls. Noticeable improvement in throttle response. Now, the engine revs up a bit before the centrifugal clutch engages. The machine will actually slightly pull from an incline at a dead stop. I may later pull out another 4 balls and see what that does. All this was nice, but top speed was still painfully slow and that darn bouncing rev limiter!Ordered and installed this ProComp CDI / Rev Box. WOW!! Night and day difference. The engine rev limiter has been raised and something feels like the ignition timing curve has been altered. The "Little 50 That Could" became a little BEAST screaming around the yard. A blip of the throttle will now break loose the rear tires. She'll now easily power slide around corners. Not GPS verified, but it feels like top speed has doubled and I'm thinking final gearing &/or tire size is the only thing holding her back from more. I may invest in slightly larger tires, drop down to four clutch balls to try and squeeze another few MPH out of the Little Blue Rocket.Plug and play installation. Dollar for dollar, best mod for your quad.

If you have a Yamaha Raptor 50 for your little one, you probably know that they get bored of it rather quickly because it is just too slow and annoying when it is bouncing off the rev limiter. It sounds so bad when it does that that I have had neighbors ask me if it is a two stroke! Anyway, great first quad and the Procom box eliminates the stupid rev limiter bouncing and wakes the little unit right up. Great investment and works great. Sped the unit up and gives it more midrange power too. Still slow off start but once your rolling it is like the thing has a little turbo in it:-) Super fast service from this provider and highly recommended. Don't even think about it, just order. One more thing, we also installed a new powertip on the stock exhaust pipe to help it breathe better and again, certainly work the 15 bucks or so. Fun, safe machine now.

This CDI fixed everything that was wrong, 1) Would shut off when shifting from N to D, 2) Hit rev limiter really quickly, now not at all, and 3) Was really slow, now noticeably faster.. Worth the price 1000%..

Made the 50 Raptor run much better - my son loves it now.
