FURminator Curry Comb for Dogs & Cats With Short, Dense Coats

My 2 Labrador Retrievers actually tolerate this. With other brushes and deshedding tools, they let me get 2 strokes in and then their back muscles wrinkle and they run away. They've only responded well to an old '90s brush and to this curry comb. The comb gets a surprising amount of hair off of my dogs, especially the male with the plush coat! It works very quickly and leaves them looking lustrous! I have very small hands, even for a woman, so the comb fits me perfectly, but I know my dad's hands would absolutely not fit in the strap. However, I love that it's designed to be the shape of a computer mouse, so it fits in my hand nicely. Overall, this is one of the best grooming tools I've ever used, and my dogs actually let me brush them with it, so I'd say it's worth a try on dogs with shorter coats.

Okay, I never leave reviews and I buy a lot of shit on Amazon. But this little thing just came about 30 minutes ago and I am procrastinating so I figured I’d brush the dog, expecting it to result the same as every other brush I’ve gotten for him; a lot of work, little reward, and my dog turns into a complete psycho. Well knock me out and steal my teeth, this thing works better than any grooming tool I’ve ever used for this type of coat. My mutt has a short mixed type coat and he sheds like his kibble supply depends on it, I tell you what. But no brushes ever work for him because they are all made for longer or super thick coats. I reckon I’m not the only one with a dog that goes absolutely freaking bananas when excited about a good scratch. Fisher, naturally, decided to roll in his hair pile and smash it into the carpet. Well I tell you what, that brush worked pretty dang well to pull the hair off the carpet so it doesn’t clog up the vacuum. Definitely an added bonus. It’s real easy to hold, shaped like a computer mouse with grips on the side. Doesn’t make your hand cramp up when you use it, and the hair just falls right out of it once it starts to build up. My dog really enjoyed it, it’s not too rough and scratchy on his skin. I’m going to try it in the back of my Jeep to pull out hair too. Lord knows there’s probably 100lbs of dog hair in the back of that old thing. There doesn’t seem really anything to break on this, but I’ll update this review if anything does. It made me buy two of them, minimum quantity to order, which I was a little butthurt about at first, but not anymore. Definitely worth buying two. I’ve paid a lot more than $7 for a brush for this dog, that didn’t even work a fraction as well.

20200514: This remains my go-to brush for the porcupine dog. Her hair is like the top coat of a labrador - kind of soft, kind of stiff, and she has no undercoat. No other brush gets the hair off. I can brush her straight or I can use it like a true curry comb and go in circles - doesn't matter, the hair falls off. It works magic on my triple-coated pup, and the medium-haired cat, too. I used to use a shedding blade on both of them, but this is gentler and they tolerate it for far longer. I only wish that darn strap was adjustable. Works left or right-handed. I think perhaps folks who are complaining aren't realizing where the hair is going. I have three dogs: Dachshund, Boxer mix, Husky / Spitz mix and feel I can give a wide spectrum review due to the disparity of coats they have. The Boxer mix (50% Golden Retriever, 25% Boxer, 25% American Staffordshire Terrier, but her hair is nothing like a Golden (her personality is, though, woot!), more like a Lab so we'll go with Boxer): Her hair doesn't come off with a pin brush, bristle brush, or shedding blade. She has no real undercoat to speak of like a Lab would, just that coarse long top coat. Curry comb is the Only thing that takes hair off of her, But . . . her hair doesn't stick to the comb so it didn't seem to be doing anything. Until I looked at the ground. It falls to the ground like a rain of hair - think of a dried up Christmas tree when it's bumped, it practically explodes in a mess of needles. That's my Boxer mix. I can see the hair pouring off her when I brush her. As further proof the thing does its job, I used to have to sweep daily and would get a handful of hair. Now that I brush her 5 -10 minutes daily I sweep up less than a handful weekly. That's not to mention the hair no longer polluting my couch, her beds, or our bed! I will absolutely spend 5 - 10 minutes each day brushing her out if it means no more clogged washing machine filter and less sweeping. So while I'm not saving much time, I get to bond more with my pup instead of sweeping. I'll gladly take that trade. The Dachshund (100% mini pain-in-the-a$$, er, Dachshund): Her hair doesn't fall off and it barely attaches to the brush. Instead it piles up neatly on her body. This is pretty cool because IL can see how much hair is coming off of her and then I can scoop it off of her and toss it outside for the birds to use in their nests. She's 9 lbs and the picture is of the hair I got off her in less than 2 minutes of brushing slowly. That's an impressive pile for so little time from such a small body. She's arthritic so I have to be gentle with her, yet I had good success in shedding her coat. This worked better than the deshedding tool. The Husky / Spitz mix (he's 25% Husky, 50% German Spitz, 25% Cocker Spaniel watered down with goodnes-knows-what, but the Husky / Spitz coat around his mantle is apparent; therefore for the purpose of this review, he's a Husky / Spitz mix): This dude does best with the shedding blade - I'm talking tufts of hair flying up in the wind like a pillow was opened up and shaken out. The shedding blade is my preferred method for him; however, the curry comb is a nice finisher to smooth his coat and smear that oil around so he's nice and shiny. I have a knock off of the FuRminator shedding tool as well, but the blade still wins. His hair sticks to the curry comb a little bit, but the comb is nowhere near as fast as the shedding blade for him. I just have to be careful not to shed him too much or he'll have bald spots. Did that once to my cat and it was pretty sad looking. To address the reviewer's complaint about the rubber separating form the comb - I call BS. That looks like a dog chewed on it. I tried to wedge my very thin fingernail between the rubber and the plastic and it was a no go. I tried to pry up the rubber with my fingers and it didn't budge. That rubber is on there to stay. Their dog either ate it or they got a defective comb. Pros: Compact Takes hair off an otherwise impossible to brush dog Lightweight Cons: The strap is tight - I can barely get my long slender lady fingers through the strap Normally I can find a few things to mention for cons, but I'm coming up empty with this product. Might other combs do a better job? Sure. Is this one worth a try? Yes. Dear FuRminator: if ever you discontinue this product due to negative reviews, please feel free to send the surplus supply to me. 20190314 Update: Still loving it. It's intact and working Great. My dog sits still for me to brush / comb her with this even with squirrels twitching and frolicking 20 feet in front of her. It's a little tougher to use on my longer-haired dog and a shedding blade is more efficient for him; however, before the blade starts irritating him I can switch to the curry comb and get a little further in the grooming than I was able to before obtaining the comb.

This little curry brush is okay but nothing like I had been lead to expect from reviews. Furminator brand always seems to have far better reviews that the actual products perform. This thing has a tiny, non-adjustable strap handle that doesn't really work well with a large sized hand. Not a deal breaker, since the shape of it makes it easier to grip without having to use the strap, but not ideal especially if you have arthritis as I do. The curry part is hard "rubber" ( I would actually consider this to be plastic, not rubber) and it really doesn't do much to grab loose hair, (as rubber or silicon would) which may be because I have single coated pugs and their fur is hard/slick rather than soft/puffy and while it loosens hair as I use it, it doesn't do anything to hold it for collection, so really I might as well not be using a brush at all. On the pro side, my slightly-difficult-to-brush dog will tolerate this curry, where he wouldn't let me touch him with a standard furminator. Also, it is reasonably priced and it was delivered promptly. That said, I will now go order an actual rubber curry brush, which is what I was shopping for before I saw this one, because I really need a grooming tool that 1) will loosen dead hair 2) will hold hair onto that hair until I can get it into a trash can, rather than on my floor, and 3) is soft enough that my dogs enjoy being brushed with it, rather than just tolerating it.

I ordered this initially for my horses, and figured after reading the reviews that even if it didnt work on them I have a dog and two cats to try, so when I got it I was super excited to try it on all of them. As other reviews have stated, it's a bit small, but my hands are small so it's easy for me to hold. The strap is a little tight, even for my thin fingers, but I found its just as easy to only put my pointer and middle finger in as if all three middle fingers were in. Unfortunately, it didn't do much for my horses. Their coat is super short and it didn't seem to pick any up loose hair up. I'll stick to their normal brushes! Then I tried it on my dog. She's a black lab/border collie, with short lab hair, and it worked wonders! It took out all her loose fur with a few swipes and her coat looks awesome! She didn't mind it too much either. Next, I tried my siamese. He LOVED being brushed by it and couldn't get enough, even rubbing up against it himself if I stopped! Like on my dog, it collected all his loose hair with ease. My other kitty didn't mind it, he was pretty indifferent compared to my siamese, but it worked great on him too.

This is the best brush for my dogs it takes off tons of hair. I have Dobermans I don’t know if it would work as well on fluffy dogs but absolutely works brilliantly for my guys

I have a pitbull and a doberman and have been searching for a good brush for their ultra-short hair; I purchased three brushes to test and compare- the FURminator curry, the FURminator Short Hair deShedding Tool for Medium Dogs , and the Untangler Grooma Groomer Brush (also Grooma Brush ). The FURminator curry was the worst, by far. As can be seen in the product image, the curry is designed with "nubs" in the center, and a tooth-type design around the edge. Although the description says it is made of rubber, as far as I can tell it is a hard plastic material, unlike the Grooma curry, which is made of firm rubber. My dogs seemed to find the FURminator curry uncomfortable, and unlike the rubber Grooma, the plastic of the FURminator did not grab the hair and help to remove it. In fact, after 20 minutes of brushing, almost no hair was removed. (I tried this brush first of the three, and the other two removed significant hair later the same day.) I did like the design countours of the brush, which made it easier and more comfortable to hold than the Grooma. However, the rubber strap across the back is small, and anyone with large hands would have trouble fitting their fingers in it. Although I wouldn't recommend the FURminator curry, I would highly recommend both the FURminator brush and the Grooma. (Please note, FURminator used to produce only one type of brush, and at that time didn't recommend them for pitbulls or other super short haired breeds, however they recently started producing different brushes for different coat lengths.) When testing those two brushes, they got approximately equal amounts of hair. The furminator brush required much less work, however the brush is very sharp, and one of my dogs hated the feeling. The Grooma required a firm brushing to get the hair, and could be difficult for someone with limited strength, but the same dog that hated the FURminator absolutely loved the Grooma. Update 2/11/12- Based on NewNoctum's recomendation I tried out the KONG ZoomGroom, Dog Grooming Toy, Boysenberry , and really liked it. It is just as effective as the Grooma, and the shape is a bit more comfortable to hold. The rubber feels slightly softer; it doesn't impact effectiveness, but at this point I can't comment on whether it will result in the brush wearing out faster or not. Would definitely recomend it over the FURminator curry.

My dog is a Mountain Cur with hair like a cross between a lab and a whippet. Over the years I’ve tried brushes, combs, mitts, blades, all with little or no success. Last week my sister and I were discussing grooming tools and I decided to try once again to find something. I stumbled upon this one while researching on Amazon using specific parameters. I used a regular furminator on a long haired cat years ago and it was amazing but I didn’t know they made this curry comb. So it came yesterday and when I opened it, I thought this will never work and it almost seemed like it would hurt because it isn’t rubber (or if it is, it’s a very hard type). Edited to add it is indeed rubber. Not only does it work but my dog loves it. I didn’t have to press down with any extra effort either. I got a good amount off of her this morning after we walked. It will now become part of our morning routine. What a great, unassuming little gadget! The size of a mouse but the power of a comb three times its size, comfortable in the hand, shaped to get small areas and, I think, well made. You can use it with how ever many fingers fit inside or just grasp it and bypass the handle altogether.

Excellent for my broken haired puppy Jack Russell. Now looking at other goods from this company.

Disappointing. Does not help with deshedding my doggo

I'm giving this a solid 4. I usually use a zoom groom, that I've had since I went to grooming school years ago, they last almost forever lol. I was looking for a new one, my old one was 11 dollars and now they are 22 plus.....it wasn't that long ago. So i decided to give this a try, but in fairness I need to use it more to see if it gets better. It is alot smaller than I thought it would be, it only has 5 rows of smaller nibs unlike the zoom groom that has multiple large rubber nibs for lack of a better word. So far not much fur is coming off , when last week with the zoom groom it was flying off like usual. The nibs on the furminator are also quite firm so you need to watch you don't press to hard, the zoom groom is super soft and flexible these are not, they are harder rubber. It feels sturdy like it will last, so far I am thinking it's more for a final brush of the coat. I love zoom groom but I didn't want to spend 22 plus dollars, so for the price this is decent, but doesn't seem to work as well as my old zoom groom. My dogs have shorter coats and with zoom groom fur flies all year long lol, with this brush barely anything came off. If zoom groom went on sale I'd get another one or maybe find a similar knock off brand. EDIT JULY 06 2026 , Iam adding a star to make it 5 stars cause my dog loves this brush lol who knew? Still not alot of fur coming off compared to other brush but he likes this it must feel kinda like a massage with the firmer bristle nub things

This is an amazing brush for Cat & Kitten Hair Grooming. Does the job beautifully without hurting the cats. i have two cats and both of them did not mind me brushing them with this. Loose hair got stuck into this comb which can be removed easily. Highly recommended for regular use.

Eine tolle Sache, um erstmal Staub Dreck und die losen Haare weg zu bürsten. Oder das tägliche Fellpflegeprogramm durchzuführen. Ich habe einen Hund mit Kurzem Haar mit Unterwolle und es bürstet so viele Haare aus, Wahnsinn. Ich würde es immer wieder kaufen. Obwohl es aus den U.S.A. geliert wurde, kam es super schnell an! Toll! Es liegt auch super in der Hand. In allem ein tolles Produkt. Ich habe auch den Furmibator Kamm. :)
