Don't hesitate, just buy it!
Here's the skinny: if you're looking for a controller that you can just pick up and intuitively know without ever wanting to spend more than the 5 seconds it takes for a USB dongle to connect, then move on. Just go buy an Xbox One controller. HOWEVER, if you're interested in something that can revolutionize your game play by the sheer amount of customization, then please, by all means, spend the money on THIS. The sheer amount of customization for almost any application is well worth the money and time. Some people do a pros and cons list, but I'm going to have to do a cons and pros list ;-)CONS:1) You will have to "train" your muscle-memory away from any "standard" controller if you've played console games before. Think about it; if I've put in a thousand hours over the course of the last 15 years using an Xbox controller, it'll take 10 hours of playtime just to get 1% of that muscle memory trained in...2) Due to the glossy plastic they decided to use, it has a cheap *feeling*... Yes, feeling. It certainly isn't cheap, but there's an inherent sense that we've been accustomed to that this controller just doesn't give us that satisfactory tactile response we're used to. Solution: spend $12 on the rubber skin made by Foamy Lizard. Seriously. It's worth the $12PROS:1) Customization! WOW. I'm not going to post here the amount of depth this thing can do. Just pop over to YouTube and check out any video in spring of 2016 or newer -- there was a huge software update, so the older posts will lead you astray.2) The haptic feedback is extremely satisfying. It took me 30min just to convince my thumb that there wasn't a ball underneath the pad.3) Dual stage triggers. These are so nice. The pull is just right, and that final "click" is satisfying.4) It makes a little tinkling sound when you turn it on. Yep, I said it. I don't care what you think; I like it ;-)Be warned, though: once you overcome its "differentness", you'll never go back. I tried to use my Xbox controller afterward -- thinking that I'd give my "training" a break -- and I couldn't stand using it after 1 minute. You won't realize how spoiled your game play got until you've spent *quality time* with the Steam controller.

Good Skin, could have been a great skin.
I am going to preface this review with that the skin works great for me now, but out of the bag it, not so much and I am rating it in it's original form.I picked this up because I love the Steam Controller, it's a great controller but the plastic always felt cheap and didn't give me the grip I wanted on the controller. This was the only suitable fix I found for that and grips feel great and after I have modified it a bit, it is ideal, but I have 2 problems with this skin that needed fixing. The First is I don't think the designer actually uses a steam controller, I had to do some modifications, basically cutting up the front of the skin, The 1st problem areas were around the track pads, I use edge spinning on a lot of my configs and the raised lip around the edge forced me to push skin to the side when I ran my thumbs around the edges of the pad. The other problem was around the buttons, the rise next to the B button wasn't horrible but since I was hacking away I took that out too, the biggest issue was hitting the forward and back buttons (where start and select are for standard controllers) the skin raised up to the point it was difficult to press these buttons, so I had to chop that out too.My 2nd issue is that while the skin conforms to the shape of the controller, it doesn't hug it, and this is before I went hacking at it.There is no adhesive or texturing on the inside of the skin basically allowing it to slide around if I happened to rotate my wrists at all, not this doesn't come up in normal play, in fact it rarely is an issue other than me picking up the controller, but it is enough to irk me, so I used a light weight adhesive on the inside of the skin and problem solved. In closing I not sure I would recommend this if you can find something better, the problem is finding something better, after my modifications I absolutely love the way this feels on the controller. If I was to buy another controller, I would still consider buying this skin as most "skins" for the steam controller are just decals and don't do anything, but I would like to see improvements mad on it.

Doesn't do what I wanted
Doesn't really make it any easier to grip in fact for me it only made it more slippery and made pushing the buttons much harder to do being they don't stick out much in the first place. If looking for something that has more plastic feel then rubber and stays cool for the most part then might be for you

The skin feels very nice and is just what I was looking for however ...
The skin feels very nice and is just what I was looking for however the fit is terrible. The skin is so loose around the steam button and left joy stick that I just cut it off like another reviewer here did.
