I have loved Pilar Lorengar ever since I heard her first Operatic Recital on London / Decca. Her voice has a distinct sound that soars, on high, to such a luminosity that she heads for the stars. She was a committed artist and lovely vocalist. This is fairly late Lorengar. The voice is a little dryer than it had been but there is still much to enjoy here and the repertoire reflects her later roles.Parts of this album have been released on other Lorengar CD collections over the years but it is nice to have this back in its entiretyand in the original programming order.

This is a beautiful recital.
Lorengar had a strong lyric soprano not unlike Licia Albanese, and despite forays into some heavyish Mozart, her voice is most spectacular in Puccini and an ethereal Dvorak Hymn to the Moon. This is a beautiful recital.

A great, underappreciated singer
A great, underappreciated singer, whose every souvenir is to be cherished. A superb musician on every level. Thank you, Decca, for making this available again. hfs

I am one of the very few people in opera who think Pilar Lorengar's voice was one of the greatest. In this recital there is a mixture of main stream arias plus Spanish De Falla and all are superb. Decca have added bonus tracks making this CD at almost 80 minutes long wonderful value. I ask all opera lovers to listen to the final track 'Mesicku na nebi hlubokem' from Dvorak's "Rusalka" - You will be blown away by Ms. Lorengar's interpretation - This is one of my favourite versions of this well known aria. Decca as usual have provided great sound and at this price extraordinary value.
