Great release
This is my first back tension release and I must say I'm already addicted to it. I instantly tightened my groupings at all distances and grew major confidence @ 50-60 yards with this release as opposed to my 4 finger tru-fire thumb release. I got it today, shot it around 50-60 times and was confident enough within that time to take it hunting this evening. Interesting point here: (and I'm mentioning this because people in some reviews I have read seem to think there is a major learning curve with this release and that it is easy to accidentally fire resulting in a self inflicted punch to the face. I did not find this to be the case at all. I was able to instantly draw my bow properly with it and smack the 10 ring). I say that to say this, I drew back on a doe this afternoon and had to let down because she doubled back after hearing something behind her. I never once felt like the release was going to fire or do something it shouldn't through the draw and all the way through the let down. The result of accidental discharge would be an operator error. When drawing, you must use your index finger and thumb heavily and keep pressure in that area until you are locked in and ready to fire. All it takes is rolling your middle and ring finger back on the top part of the release while gently rolling your thumb forward. I have yet to shoot the release where it didn't surprise me (which is what ever archer wants). It forces you to AIM AIM AIM. I love this thing and I'll never go back to any other type of release. As far as the quality, it is top notch, just like everything Scott makes. The bearing in the index finger slot is smooth. The release has yet to give me the dreaded "hang up" and the shots just roll off the bow as they should. For the record, I am far from a pro and I strictly hunt, no 3D or competition shooting here. I'm a mediocre archer at best but this release makes me a better shooter for sure. It also makes my Hoyt Defiant better... if that is even possible. Everything flows and the ease of the release helps me concentrate on the rest of the progression of my shot, which in turn brings me more accuracy. If you are anything except an extremely green beginner, do yourself a favor and at the very least try one of these releases. It will make you fall in love with shooting all over again. To reiterate, this is definitely not for the beginner although I'm sure with the right instruction could be efficient with it in matter of a few days of practice. One last thing, if you strictly hunt with it, take the moon out of it immediately and roll it over to the non-clicking side. It is unnecessary and also caused me to try and punch the release at first. Once I swapped it, I instantly got an even tighter group and shed the worry of a deer hearing it click. It isn't loud but if it is dead silent outside and a deer is close, it could possibly be enough to spook it. Also, remember that the "roll" you experience before the shot is adjustable with the screws to the left and right of the hinge. You will definitely need to adjust as the factory setting is miserably long straight out of the package.Happy shooting ladies and gents....

Hard to get used to
Hard to get adjusted. I may just need more practice but not consistent with this release.

My favorite release I own.
This release is fantastic. I bought one and now my friends all wish they had over whatever else they bought. It’s smooth and consistent. It can be shot with the click or without the click and is adjustable. The release really helped my target panic. The only con to be mentioned is that the black circular covering that covers the bearing has a tendency to unthread after enough shots. It’s easily retightened in a few seconds and your good for maybe another 100 shots. Some lock tight should fix this however it’s slightly annoying for this premium of a product.

but wasn't very happy. Then I purchased the Scott longhorn and I ...
I received my Backspin from the mail unexpectedly very early... earlier than I have been informed. I have been using the trigger release since I had my first bow. I have recently purchased the Scott Exxus, but wasn't very happy. Then I purchased the Scott longhorn and I began to notice a lot of differences in my shooting. This opened myself to the Back tension release...I LOVE IT..!!! Then I decided to purchase the BACKSPIN RELEASE. The principles are just the same except for the additional bearing rotation. From one of the reviews it was mentioned that the hook was a bit shorter which is true but it's just a matter of getting used to it The craftsmanship is just so perfect and comfortable. The first thing you'll notice when you're shooting is the accuracy and your groupings. The BACKSPIN RELEASE IS JUST AWESOME...!!! My only advice for anyone who wants to try the Back tension release is try to make a training tool first and get familiarized how the Back tension release works... never try in on your bow if you're doing it the first time. I just used a bungee chord with a string as d-loop.

This release has 1 major flaw and that's the hook. It's way too shallow and unless you are very careful, it'll slip from your bow string and the arrow will fire accidentally. They should make the size of the hook the same as other releases on the market.

Rarely do I give 5 stars but the Backspin deserves more!
Simply amazing.I've returned to archery after many years and I traversed from wrist strap releases to thumb and finally hinge style back tension. I couldn't be happier with my choice to change. I honestly never thought I was "punching" my thumb release which I enjoyed and found gave me a more consistent and sold anchor. The very first shot with the Backspin showed me just how much unnecessary back pull and shoulder flexion and abduction I was applying with my follow through after release. It was a significant amount; enough to make me realize I needed a hinge style release instead to make me focus on form, timing and really applying a gentle pressure through the valley to the wall against my anchor point instead of trying to pull with all my might. The release does take some time to get used to and you need to focus on your hand positioning as to not suffer a misfire while drawing your bow back. The mechanism is simple and easy to understand once you actually see the release. A small adjustment to the moon makes for a good amount of change to the release sensitivity in my experience and I would suggest making incremental adjustments over the course of adapting to the release rather that simply setting it "hot" and thinking it will be safe. After shooting about 100 arrows with the release I will say that I won't go back to wrist or thumb style releases at this point and will be selling them off to purchase a back up Backspin as I always like to have two. I may try the 4 finger or other variations.I will also add that the bearing finger hole really does reduce drag and makes for a smooth action when rotating to set off the hinge and hook. A great design!

but I enjoy this release more
It takes some getting used to after using a calliper release, but I enjoy this release more. I find it has improved my accuracy by forcing me to take my time in releasing the arrow and thus avoiding pulling or jerking at the moment of release.
