Adams Extract Red Velvet Cake Mix 27 Oz (Pack of 2)

was expecting something amazing after reading about this in a magazine. it is just a cake mix, an expensive one at that.

We just finished our second cake from this mix. We searched high and low for a quicker alternative to homemade. This is it. The only thing better is the recipe I have which was perfected after trying so many while living in the South. To keep it from being dense make sure to whip up the butter and sugar mixture until it is really fluffy. Check to make sure your butter stick bends a bit but isn't squishy before you use it. If it is overly soft, you get a a dense cake because the little tiny air bubbles cannot form. Then take two minutes to beat in each egg. It helps.

Next to homade, I really liked this kit. Everything was pre-measured. I made my own cream cheese frosting. I like a dense red velvet cake. I made two 9" layers and we ate the whole cake on Sunday. I will keep buying this when I make red velvet cakes.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BUY THIS MIX. My husband purchased it, thinking he was buying something more high-end to make for a friend's birthday and the cake is TERRIBLE. We followed the instructions to the letter, but the cupcakes turned out tasteless and a bit dense. I've made red velvet cakes from other mixes and they turned out fine, so I really do not know what the problem is here. If I could give it ZERO stars I would. I am so annoyed at having wasted time and money on this mix.
