I've read it twice.
This is the most recent version Evan P. Marshall and Edwin J. Sanow's series of books on the stopping power of ammunition available today.Although the ballistic information can get repetitive and boring. It is very good information to have when deciding what to get, assuming you can find it during the current shortages, for what ever purpose you plan. The most interesting part I found was the real life accounts. Although my copy that I ordered was missing the end of one story and the beginning of another. Paladin Press was very kind when I reported this to them. They sent me a second copy with the complete stories in it. And, a $25.00 gift card as well.I think if you want to know about the ballistic qualities of ammunition to stop an attacker you can not do better than this book.

Good Info
Very informative but very long. Goes into very specific ballistics info. Even though it is the most recent book Ive found it could be updated with the most recent ammo products. The info on the FBI and INS ammo testing was very informative. Goes to show that just because a one law enforcement agency uses a certain caliber and kind of ammo, it pays to do your homework and base your choice off of more than just one agency's recommendation. A little pricey but worth it if you are really interested in ammo ballistics.

Choosing a Handgun caliber is easy with this book
Definitive study of terminal ballistics. Extensive use of data used to explore stopping power. I have the Evan Marshall's fist book and it was an eye opener; his second book expands the study to newer calibers like the .40 S&W and some older calibers not covered in his first book like the .22 LR. The book also has fascinating real life scenarios that illustrate stopping power.

WOW! POW!! BAM!!
I am stunned by the study and controversy of ammo ballistics. TV has done us a severe injustice by showing bad guys always getting blown to smithereens with a single shot. It is not so. The truth comes out in this book. Everyone, even those who hate guns must read this to see how hard people work to make handguns, not safer but more effective. I am glad the police now have the .357 Sig and the .40 Smith & Wesson bullets in their weapons.

I don't know why folks vilify these authors and their books?!
After reading way too many discussions on "stopping power" in gun forums, I figured I'd buy the book and see what all the nay saying was about. After reading the book, I must confess it sounds to me like lots of folks hate these guys (and their findings) because it doesn't square with what they already believe. I haven't finished it completely (I keep jumping around chapters), but so far I'd have to say it's great!True, stopping power is not an exact science as there are so many variables, but the authors acknowledge this.Basically, it looks to me like many folks depend entirely on lab results, loving the repeatability they can achieve when in the lab (the "Jell-O Junkies"). 'Course, we all know when it comes to real world results, things are often not what they seem in the lab. Looks like these guys got real world results first, THEN took the same ammo to the lab to see how it tested. Since they know what works in the field, hopefully bullets can now be designed in the lab using the lab characteristics of real world stoppers as a baseline. As one who tends to come down on the side of real world results (ignore the real world at your own peril!), I like their methodology!

Great... but its only an update so limited info
Evan Marshall is the best, period. Just realize this is an "update" and is limited to "what's new." It has no info whatsoever on several calibers including .380 auto/9mm kurz and .45acp. Nothing on "wheel guns" either if you're an "old timer" like me!

Good book - But don't get the Kindle Edition
This book is excellent - these guys got the job of evaluating bullet performance in real life and did an amazing study of bullet stopping power (remember their methodology isolates the bullet variable -so it's not gunfight results - its bullet results) If you start reading it you can't put it down. BUT it is not for Kindle. This is not a novel that you read from beginning to end - It is like a reference book. On kindle it is almost impossible to go back to find something - even going back to a chapter is very difficult. The tables are not really readable and the photos confused and sometimes duplicated. A great book - but its a book not digital media.

no nonsense approach
Once again Marshall/Sanow came up with updated information on terminal ballistics, even though this edition is in Dec.2012 not brand new anymore. In their well known realistic approach they beefed up the section about the various ways of performing ballistical tests, always comparing these to their own findings. Also, several experts from different backgrounds present their findings and theories about developping, testing and evaluating handgun ammunition. Chapters on rifle-, shotgun-, and blackpowder-performance round off the picture. The statics and tables on how the different calibers have performed in the street were revised.Of course, some information is outdated by now, new improved bullets/cartridges have been introduced by almost all of the major manufacturers, other bullets have dissapeared from the market. However, this book is nonetheless a valuable resource of basic information, not to say education, for a "ballistic layman" like me. At the end they included descriptions of actual gunfights that brings us back from the world of "tech-talk" into the real world, reminding us of the far reaching consequences of the use of firearms. I recommend this book to everyone who is looking for a comprehensive insight into terminal ballistic effects of handguns.
