Interesting and amusing story of one mans effort to set up a haulage business.
Fascinating read all about one mans effort to set up a haulage business, and how it evolved. An enjoyable read.

A down to earth tale of a former HGV driver
There is a lot of ongoing debate as to why we are currently facing an HGV driver shortage in the UK. Possibly this book will help us understand why. After a quarter century of honest hard work, the reader gets the impression that the only winner in this line of work are the warm, office bound paper-pushers and civil servants. I lost count of the times the words "Cold and wet" were used to describe the author. In a fairer world, the author's clear entrepreneurial spirit would be recognised and rewarded far more than it probably was. Maybe it is not so much we have a shortage of drivers, but we have a surfeit of regulators, middle-men and box-tickers that suffocate any "Can do" attitude.

Enjoyable enough
I enjoyed the stories in this book and it was an entertaining read, but not without fault. This book would benefit from being longer and some of the stories would have been better if they had been expanded on. There are a lot of misplaced commas and too many exclamation marks!! There is the odd spelling mistake (thankfully the author learned more about the practical side of giving the "Heinrik (sic) manoeuvre" rather than the spelling of it) which do make it slower to read. Nothing a decent proof-reader (or two) couldn't fix though.I would say it is worth buying though as it's a good price.

Fantastic- a great bit of trucking history
Trucking today is nothing like that of the eighties. Today trucks are designed for drivers whether male of female. Back then they were gaffers machines, hard graft and poor pay.

Enjoyable read.
Brought back some memories of a better time to be a driver. Remember meeting the same sort of customers and bosses.

Laugh and cry at the same time, this book is gold.
This guy takes the biscuit, if you ever thought it only happened to you then Chris is every one of us. A fantastic read capturing the everyday life of the trucker. Determined not to be beaten when most would have headed to the pub never to re-emerge Chris battles on against all odds. Heartwarming nostalgic inspiring and most of all hilarious, this book will give you the incentive to put your problems in context and dust yourself down, if nothing else you will close the book laughing every time. Well done on an excellent story well written and highly enjoyable. I wish there was a sequel, or even a documentary. That would be a right entertaining production. Top marks Chris and keep on trucking.

Back in the real uncomplicated world.
Took me back to the days when people worked hard to support there family as opposed today's society who are looking out for hand outs.
