Takes the stress out of a pillow cake
This pan worked perfectly and the cake was pleasantly easy to cover. The one in the photo is the middle size, and it used a whole box of cake mix on EACH side, which only resulted in half-full pans - I really should have used 1.5 each side. I could have used 2 boxes on each side if I'd wanted. I can only imagine how much batter the larger cake takes! This would easily be enough cake for 100+ people if you used all 3 tiers. To cover, I got scared and didn't do it the recommended way of covering each side separately. My filling was soft and I was worried it would ooze at the seam. I lost a little shape definition on the edges, and that's certainly in part because I covered in one piece - the fondant bunched a little at the corners as I tucked it under (I used a thin spatula to get it right under the concave middle parts, and that worked very well).I am not experienced with making shaped cakes, and this worked much better than I expected. My cake was very soft, and it still held its shape relatively well. There was zero sticking with homemade cake release. My only hiccup was that I didn't 100% trim off the domes (because I really should have used more batter in each half, and I wanted a fuller pillow). This meant that the corners were awkwardly separate, but I was able to fill them with ganache, and it wasn't noticeable after covering. My only complaint is that the pans are quite thin. My larger one arrived with a massive sent at one corner, so I'm worried about dropping them.Over the hassle of carving a cake uniformly, this is a sensible buy for me. Yes, you could just trim a square cake, but that's one more way things could go wrong in my book!

EXCELLENT!
The pans arrived really fast. I did notice that one pan had a tiny bump in it but nothing major. The pans baked the cake really well. The first time was an epic fail, the second time it was excellent. I like to keep my cakes really moist but I was afraid that I would over bake it so I took it out too early and it completely broke apart the first time so that was totally my fault. The second attempt, I kept my cake in long enough to make sure it was firm and stable enough not to crack. I feared that it might be dry so I made a simple syrup and rubbed it on the top of the cake before frosting and stacking, and it worked out perfect. The pans came with a core piece for the center and I found it complicated to use. I was scared that the biggest pan wouldn't properly bake the center but it baked perfectly well. So if you're scared that you're going to have raw cake you should check out the wilton website because they give you information regarding proper baking temperature for the pan and the amount of batter needed for each pan. It was really helpful. Overall I recommend these pans if you're trying to achieve a pillow cake but don't feel like wasting cake by freezing and carving it to perfection. This was simple, fast and affordable.

Make that pillow cake!!!
Love these pans. Perfect for pillow cakes. Takes longer to bake but that's cool with me. You will need to make (what ever pan size you select) 2 times to make a bottom and top. I recommend you create the "bottom" one first. After cooling down, make sure the sides are not sticking to the sides of the pan. Cut the top (if needed) to make it flat. Place cake board on top of it and flip it. The rounded part should be facing you. Frost the cake, place to the side and work on the fondant. Place stretched fondant over the cake and cut off extra. Place a bit of frosting in the middle so the cake won't slide off the cake board. Place the cake board on top of the cake and flip it. Now the flat top is facing up. Frost that part and set aside. Work the 2nd cake the same way but you must flip it to a cake lifter and slide onto "bottom" of cake. Use fondant to blend both edges. Good luck

I was happy with the small pan so far
I have been wanting these pans for a long time, so far I have used the small one for my daughters birthday on top of a 10" teir. I was happy with the small pan so far. I am just starting out in the whole cake decorating thing and I was not able to make the pillow look perfect but, that was from my own flaws, I don't think it was from the pans. So. In other words I thought this was great for the price! Very happy!!

I am well pleased with my pillow pans. The same week I received them, I made a birthday cake for a 14 year old, using the middle size only for this purpose, but because I made the first batch of mixture for the larger size pan, I was able to do the medium and small sizes at the same time, thus making a small pillow for a friend - she was impressed. No more carving and not getting it right. Thanks Wilton.

To make the perfect pillow cake just add these
What a way to make pillow cakes. The ease that using these pans has made it is insane. I used to try to carve my cakes but I was wasting so much time and still not achieving the effect I wanted. I wish I could post a picture of the cake I made for our daughters 2nd birthday. Everyone that saw it thought it was a professional cake. It baked evenly and was a hit.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
