I use for art
I like these as they light up areas of drawing and the glass magnifier is clear. Great product. Very happy with it. I use long lasting batteries. So far its been great.

Very clear undistorted viewing lens but batteries fade quickly
I have macular degeneration and need increasingly bright and strong magnifiers. This is a good one. The light is very bright and shines on the part of the page you are trying to read. The entire lens is clear and undistorted, unlike other magnifiers which tend to have a relatively small area where the magnification is accurate surrounded by a blurry or distorted view. I don't know how to judge 10 x vs 5 x magnification but this one is good. Many others really only have 2 x magnification no matter what they say. It is returnable so give it a try. It is sturdy, a bit heavier than some because it seems to be well built. I like lit enough to buy two.Update: These are still great magnifiers, but the batteries (and lthus lights) fade VERY quickly. It takes 3 AAA batteries, and for people with low vision it is hard to deetermine how to put them in correctly. I'm very surprised at the quick fading as these are supposedly lit by LED lights. But within an hour or two, even with very intermittent use, they fade significantly. Real bummer. I wish the seller would address this for us.

A nice magnifying glass, nice size, lightweight.
I didn’t give it five stars because I have had real trouble with the light. It’s working now but the batteries were difficult to put in and I had to move them around a bit to get the light to work. The light is working right now but I don’t know for how long. I’m keeping it anyway.

Terrific Magnifying Glass
What's important to note about this magnifier is that the lens is made of glass and not plastic like other magnifiers. This is important in two respects:1. A glass lens will last longer than a plastic one simply because it is more durable and will not scratch2. The image quality of this lens is excellentThe addition of LED lighting only makes a good thing even better. The light given off by the LEDs is very bright and its color temperature is the same as daylight, so colors are accurate. When I received my glass the button to turn on the LEDs did not function consistently. Sometimes it turned them on, sometimes not and I had to shake or tap the glass to get them to light. When it worked, it was great but having to fuss with the button to turn the LEDs on made it less than worthwhile. The problem was I really liked the magnifier and didn't want to go through the trouble of returning it and ordering a new one.I reached out to the vendor via email and he was quick to respond. I explained the situation to him and, once he verified my order, he immediately sent a replacement. He was clear that I did not have to return the first one I received with the faulty switch. In my book, this is excellent customer service.I almost forgot to mention, this magnifier is a power of 10, so things are magnified 10 times their size. You won't miss anything with that much magnification. Add in the LED lights and the great customer service and this glass is a winner. You'll love it!

Perfect for elderly eyes
Purchased for my elderly parents. They love it! It’s easy to hold and the magnification, coupled with the built- in light, has made a huge difference in their ability to read and see things more clearly.

Clear lens, even light, easy to hold...
I was actually surprised. I don't often use a magnifying glass, this was mainly for my wife. Her illness was taking a toll on her ability to see. She died and I inherited it from her. Goodness, this thing is outstanding! One thing I like is the size and how easy it is to keep track of.. and another thing is how well balanced it is in my hand. Very easy to use and on the eyes. The light is excellent!

ALL these magnifying glasses are no more than 1.5x to 3x. No matter what they claim. Here's why.
FIRST, I CALCULATE THE ACTUAL MAGNIFICATION OF THIS PARTICULAR MAGNIFYING GLASS TO BE ONLY 1.4X. Online sources provide a great deal of information about how magnifying glasses work (information that is not seen on webpages here). That a traditional magnifying glass is usually in-focus in the 1.5x to 3x range … and that it is extremely common for sellers/makers to exaggerate the magnification as being 5x, 10x or even 30x. And because SOME of them exaggerate, they ALL have to exaggerate, in order to appear competitive and comparative against the other exaggerated claims. (Reminds me of those Vegas hotel 'resort' fees: because SOME of the hotels hide part of the total price as a resort fee in the fine print, they ALL have to do it, else they falsely look to be more expensive when comparison-shopping.)For a magnifying glass to actually surpass 3x, apparently, physics requires the glass be of LESS diameter than the 3" or so that a traditional magnifying glass usually is. (Or, less commonly, that the maker 'double-up' the lenses so that the second lens is further magnifying the output of the first lens.) The lower diameter, combined with the increase in magnification, means the left-to-right width of what you see through the glass is much less. Think of a jeweler's loupe magnifier, typically 10x to 30x; the jeweler can see very small defects inside a diamond … but he can't see anything much more left-to-right than the actual diamond itself. That might be OK for someone magnifying diamonds or coins or stamps, but to magnify typical things, like small print, you would actually want your left-to-right width to be much wider than that. Said another way, a traditional magnifying glass is going to be no more than 3x … and you don't really WANT it to be much more than 3x anyway. It turns out that it is quite easy to calculate the true magnification of a glass. You just compare the size of the image to the size of the actual object. So … look at how much width of an in-focus ruler can be seen through the glass; that is the magnified image of (that part of) the ruler. Use that number as the denominator. Now measure the actual diameter of the glass; that is the actual width of the (part of the) ruler you magnified. Use that number as the numerator. Divide. And that's the true magnification.I was actually a bit surprised to have discovered all of this. I have had an inexpensive '5x' magnifying glass laying around the house for years; I just measured and it turns out, to my surprise, it is actually only about 1.5x.Back to reviewing THIS DEVICE. The 12 LEDs are decently bright, but I would prefer a bit more brightness than it offers. The on/off button feels flimsy in-use and so I wouldn't be surprised if it breaks sooner than it should. And the batteries do not seat perfectly in the handle; I had to shake the handle and push down on the batteries to make them seat well and turn on the LEDs. That doesn't concern me as much given that a well-known trick is that you can put a little wad of aluminum/tin foil between the tip of a battery and the contact to make a battery seat more firmly. For $10 (that included an offered coupon), this device is a better deal than another one listed here, that is EXACTLY the same other than branding, listed for $15. If this device had truly been at least 3x, I would have kept it. But I am returning it, in the hope that I can find another one that has at least a true 3x to 4x magnification.
