Batteries last much longer than any other lamps we have had. Good design, brightness, durability. It would be nice to have a removable baffle on one side so you aren't blinded when looking at something it illuminates.

Great lantern! I would avoid standard batteries with this lantern since so many regular alkaline batteries have a tendency to leak. It works well with Panasonic AA Eneloop rechargeable batteries and Panaonic AA to D cell adapters. Rechargeable batteries are much less likely to leak versus alkaline. Even if you run into a leaky alkaline battery the terminals are easy to clean up with a Q-tip and a little vinegar to neutralize the base alkaline discharge followed up with some rubbing alcohol. A handy little lantern that cranks out a lot of light when you need it. With a little bit of modification, this is a buy it for life battery powered lantern.

Small but bright. Size is perfect for keeping handy—not obtrusive. My go to when the power fails. Versatile settings for any lighting emergency. Long life settings reassuring when you don’t know how long the lights will be off.

I'm very satisfied with this lantern. It's very bright and the battery life is excellent.The hook on the bottom let's it hang perfectly in my tent, making spending time in the tent after sunset much more enjoyable.I will definitely be packing this for every camping trip and it's great to have at home in case of a blackout.

I've purchased at least three or four of these as gifts, silent auction items and for myself. I end up using it more than I thought I would. Light quality is excellent. It looks very nice for the price paid.

Not a good light… First it’s a pain to close the bottom once you put the batteries in. Second when you turn it on it always starts at the brightest setting. Third the low setting has a strange pulse every few seconds. Fourth the candle mode is worthless as it’s very generic and doesn’t act like a candle at all.. This will be returned. It has potential if they make a new version with a simple knob that turns it on and changes the brightness from low to high. Also they need to remove the worthless candle mode and stop the low setting from having the strange pulse…

I did have a bit of trouble inserting the batteries, just awkward to do the base up. Once in and lit, it was brilliant.

Ordered two of these lanterns recently, primarily to use indoors if we lose our power. (Coincidentally, we lost our power the day I ordered them and they arrived the day after it was restored.) I'm impressed by how much light they give off in the brightest setting (there are four in total); you can light a huge room with just one. Best part is they only take 3 D cell batteries to operate. Would be great for camping as well as they are lighweight and sturdy. A very good buy.

Personally, in general, I prefer lanterns and other electronic equipments that don't require an external charger. This product requires three D batteries so it adds up to the cost. If you want them to be rechargeable, it's more expensive and you need to buy a charger so it adds up to the cost again. That charger takes much more space and is more complicated than simply using a lantern that recharges using a USB cable.
