Wow has it really been six years since I purchased my bags?
I came back to purchase a set a bags for a friend. Not a single hole in any of the six bags (purchased a set and then came back later to get another set). All the straps are still attached. The bags are natural cotton so they do shrink on the first wash. But six years later I can still carry 25+ pounds of a turkey in one of my bags. The only shock now is the price now in 2022 compared to 2016.

look go and do their job well, meant to be hand washed
These actually look better in person than I expected. They aren't tan, but rather a natural unbleached cotton color. I've been using them for groceries, library books, dry cleaning, anything I need to carry that won't fit in my purse. They're about the size of a paper grocery bag, though a little shorter. I've had no problem with them holding up, even full of heavy groceries or textbooks.Regarding other reviewers having problems with washing, the instructions on the tag say to cool wash by hand and hang to dry. Granted, that's the best way to take care of anything made of fabric in that it's gentle on them and will help them last the longest. However, this is a bag and that seems a bit high maintenance for a bag. So, I would have given five stars if they were machine washable and dryable.

Great for Making Personalized Gifts
I bought 3 of these (9 bags total) to decorate as library book bags for kids for Christmas gifts. The price was great for this size bag, especially compared to the craft store. Upon initial inspection, all of the bags look well made - no holes in the seams or loose strings. I like that the bottom of the bag is flat - I think that will help it last longer because there will be less pressure on the seams when the bag is full. I ironed both sides of each bag prior to decorating and was able to get a nice smooth surface. I used a fabric pen and textile paint to personalize each bag. The paint took to the bags very nicely and the paint stayed where I wanted it to (did not bleed all over). I ironed the bags again after the paint dried. The instructions on the paint said the color would be set after 3 minutes of ironing. I don't think its a good idea to wash canvas, so I did not test that out.

The strap is too long.
The strap is kind of crazy long, but it works well as a book tote, which is what I bought them for. The color is a very vanilla bean ice cream, which I like, but not the clean bleached cotton look my sister expected when she was rooting through my closet looking for "the plain cotton totes" to borrow for something (I can't remember what, maybe farmer's market), so it's not for everyone, I guess. I don't use these as much as I expected to, or I'd give them a higher rating, almost entirely because the strap is just ridiculously long and unwieldy. I might get around to fixing it someday. A simple adjustment loop would make these pretty perfect.

Shrinks half an inch after cold wash
I think the fabric is like the canvas drop cloth in the hardware stores but shrinks more. It's not bad, consistently about 1/2 inch reduction on all 3 dimensions after a cold hand wash cycle. From my drop cloth experience, I won't use hot water nor put it in the dryer unless you want still smaller bags. The stitches and the fabric seem sturdy. I doubt if I ever need that strength as it's just a few inches of travel from the cart to the car boot. They will look like needing ironing badly after wash. But I rather have that professional painter accessory look than carrying fancy shopping bags. Price is reasonable.

Not pretty, but dirt cheap and seem sturdy.
Several stores near me have decided to try charging us for bags. these are large, slightly ugly, and dirt cheap so i keep them in my trunk for when I go to one of these stores. Though mostly I find I tend to avoid the two stores that have started charging for bags an just driving a little farther to stores I don't have to worry about that. I've wondered if I should buy some markers and let my nieces decorate them for me... though i am a guy so that might not be a good idea now that I think about it.

I love these bags!
I love these bags! I get compliments on them all the time at the market. I wanted to stop using plastic bags but I don't like using the reusable bags from the store with a big ugly logo or design on them. I just wanted simple and plain canvas bags and these are infinitely what I was looking for. They're durable and can hold a decent amount of weight (I've put up to two gallon jugs of water in one bag plus additional small items and it held up fine). When they get dirty, just throw then in the washing machine. I highly recommend.

Five Stars
Great bags, I ordered 6 and will be ordering 6 more soon.Update: September 9, 2014: Well, I should have known better than to right a review so soon. I just washed one of these bags in cold water and it shrank, I mean really shrank! Not to mention it was a wrinkled mess and lost it's body. Had to spray starch and iron it. If you don't plan on ever washing these bags they are great, but if you want a bag you can wash, I would not recommend these. I'll be looking for something to replace them, but with the way fabrics are made these days I fear there isn't anything out there.
