The threading insert tool looks great. I won't know until I use it. I am happy with it.

I bought this for internal threading on a manual lathe. As you can see in the attached photo, the insert mounting geometry is clocked so the insert face is tilted relative to the shank flats. This prevents advancing the cross slide in the normal way on subsequent passes when manual threading. I think this is what the prior reviewer meant about the 30 degree negative rake, although it looks like the insert is a normal positive rake insert (acute angle between chip and clearance faces). So, I believe some or all of these shanks have this clocking defect. Another mounting option is to use the cylindrical surface of the shank. I measure this at 12.94mm (0.510") so too big for close fitting 1/2" boring bar holders. I'll be boring a sleeve to 13mm diameter to allow me to use my Aloris Boring Bar holder. The inserts look good, although I have not cut with them yet. For what it is worth the packaging is labeled "MITSUBISHI MATERIALS" so I have some hope they were made to Japanese industrial standards. Each of the 11 included inserts has 3 cutting edges. So, for the purchase price ($26.01 in this instance) you get 33 cutting edges so each one is about $0.79. The 4 star rating reflects that I think that is a smokin' deal even though the shanks are likely unusable in a production environment due to the clocking defect.

This internal threading tool works great and is very cost effective. It fits my tool holder(s) nicely and is very rigid which is needed when threading deep holes.

A must have for internal threading.

The flats on the bar result in an over 30 degree negative rake. Pretty extreme, probably wouldn't have bought if I knew that.

Picked this up for a small job and seems to work as well as Seco/Iscar/Dorian ones we've used in the past.
