I'd like to use it for school - will it hold my laptop, a text book (or two) and 1" notebooks?

This will fit your laptop and a few folders and pencils. You will not be able to fit a textbook because the inside is small and the handle is blocking the storage area.

The wheels are easy to pull & not at all awkward. Bare in mind that he wheels don't turn, so you're always pulling the luggage behind you. But for me, pulling is not an awkward movement.

Imitation leather, but high quality. Very nice looking and durable. The lining is very nice too, looks like satin.
