Perfect Gift for my Mother
My mom lives in an area with a lot of wildlife (Florida) and thus, you cannot leave your trash can outside overnight. However, the garbage truck comes so early in the morning that for decades it's been a mad dash outside barefoot in your pajamas to get the trash out in time. Having this on the trash can gives her a lot of peace of mind, because she can put the trash can out the night before and know that it won't end up all over the lawn in the morning.I had 2 concerns with buying this -- first, she's elderly and not very strong. I was worried that it would be too complicated or bound too tightly for her to use. That hasn't been a problem. It fits the trash can nicely but is easy to stretch. Second, I was worried that the Garbage Pickup workers wouldn't be able to figure this contraption out and thus wouldn't pick up her trash. That seems to not be a problem either. They detached it the very first time in seconds (they're probably used to seeing these on people's trash can lids). Overall, a great buy for the money and will bring years of peace-of-mind to come.

Didn't work
Credit where credit is due, this seems like a sturdy and well-designed product, and I expected it to work. It fit tightly.I have a medium sized raccoon that's been getting into my trash and I figured this, combined with a new Rubbermaid Brute trash can, would solve my problem. The 2nd picture above is what I saw after the first night, lid off, Bandit-Band laying on the ground. I was highly skeptical as to how the raccoon managed to get it open, and i honestly figured I must have put the band on wrong and it flew off during the night. The first picture is what I found this morning. Clearly the raccoon was able to get it open again. After some investigation I've concluded the extended handle can be used as a lever, and if you pull it far enough away from the can it shoots off. I've wrapped a bungie cord around the circumference of the can to prevent that, and I'm testing again tonight. That said, the product has failed, there are other can straps that don't have this lever flaw and I'd suggest folks look into them instead (any of the "drill a hole in your can and attach a strap" type solutions).

I’ve finally beaten the raccoon in my backyard!
I wasn’t sure about this product and didn’t know whether it would fit my trash can. Best. Purchase. Ever! I’ve been in a battle of wills with a raccoon in my backyard and have even taken to keeping the trash indoors so I don’t have to deal with the mess of ripped open trash bags and tipped over trash cans. (I still can’t figure out how that stupid raccoon opens the trash can, half the time I can’t get the lid open!). The bandit band works like a dream. It’s very easy to install over the lid and easy to remove. I was able to keep the trash out on the back deck for three nights with no interference from the raccoon!

Winning the War Against Our Raccoons
We have some pretty clever and intrepid raccoons. They love nothing more than feasting on our discarded food and then tossing everything--wrappers, paper towels, table scraps-- onto the ground, like a final middle-finger before escaping into the night. For years, the raccoons had the upper hand. We tried all sorts of deterrents and gadgets, but to no avail. The raccoons always called in their wizened elders from the highlands who had years of experience and exceptional manual dexterity. Needless to say, we were losing the war...until we ordered the Bandit Band (or whatever it's called...) Now we're going on Day 7...with fully intact and upright trash cans every morning. Take THAT raccoons!!!!

Decent device, does the trick
Solid little device, not particularly cheap but well made. Good for critters, but won't stop any bigger creatures getting in though.
