Simple, Fun, and Straightforward RPG/Skirmish Fun.
I am someone who loves tabletop RPGs but gets frustrated when I am part of campaigns that get away from the adventures. As much as I like RP and character interaction, I am a player who likes rolling the dice and being part of the action more.Frostgrave cuts to the chase. The core of the experience is you and your warband in the dungeon, cutting ahead of the competition to get loot and glory. All the other bits - leveling up, buying loot, upgrading your hideout - all serves to get you back in the action and adventures.I have been able to get friends who were new to tabletop RPGs into the hobby via Frostgrave, modifying it where instead of a PvP experience, I'm the DM and I play with one to two other players.I think it sets up a player for success and fun, and creates a good mindset for players to have. Frostgrave uses a very simple die system - just one D20 can get you through everything. All spells, no matter how lengthy their description, are easily figured. You can build a well rounded warband to get a taste of several RPG archetypes, and that helps players appreciate the synergy of an RPG party. Not just that, but it's easy to accept characters dying in Frostgrave because you've got a whole warband. Some of the members are likely to be expendable, and creating characters that you are all right with dying can set up insane events in the game. One of my favorite moments was when one of my players used his expendable thug to hold off a horde of enemies. The thug chopped down a whole horde of skeletons - and lived! The player got super excited and even though the thug died later, they had a little "funeral" at the end of the session in good fun. I've been part of RPG sessions where players are so afraid of their characters dying they don't even go on adventures. I want my players to be excited about the adventures they go on, not anxious, and this helps them form the mindset that this is just a game where you can have fun no matter what happens.

Solo Tabletop Play for Gamers
Wow, what a book and ruleset. I love that I can head downstairs and set up a solo game, especially in these times. The book is well written with multiple play examples. There is a lot of info in the book and it has replaced other tabletop systems as my go to game. Give it a chance but you must have your own miniatures to play. Any fantasy type miniatures will do though or your could buy the official minis that the company produces. Three thumbs up if I had three thumbs.

Great Book, Great Game! Updated Rules. Prompt Shipping
Can't complain with this game! Very enjoyable, easy to understand and play. Published by Osprey, written by Joseph A. McCullough. Illustrations by 'RU-Mor', book is not over priced with ponderous amounts of fluff and pictures, just the right amount to inspire creative play. Game mechanics are intelligently designed, making it a wonderful balance between a warband skirmish games and a Role playing games. Backed up by delightful Northstar Miniature sets, this a no brainer if this brand of play is in your realm of fun. Sproo Town Reviews.

An Excellent revision for an already great game
I can’t recommend the game Frostgrave enough for fans of miniature gaming. There are so many facets to this excellent game that makes your time investment worthwhile. The second edition refines the game and adds some additional rules and adjusts some of the wizard characters. Overall the changes are well done. If you have all the first edition books and wonder if you need to scrap them and start over with this, you’re wrong. This is not a must have. And You could easily have both versions and simply decide to run a game in either rule set as you please. I’m keeping both. For gamers brand new to this game, pick up this version unless you can get a sweet deal on the first edition books. Whatever you do, get this game. It’s that good!

Hands down best skirmish level game
Fantastic game! Nearly perfect in every way, and every expansion adds layers to one of the best core game engines in existence. Simple enough that I can play a stripped down version with my young boys (6 and 8) but deep enough that my gaming buddies LOVE it. The sandbox approach to rules, setting, scenarios is phenomenal. Every page communicates that it was a game designed to be FUN.
