Bitter Fruit is Anything But Bitter
I enjoy The Shadow, even though the dialog is hokey and a bit silly. I even read the pulps but that's a different version than the radio program. I am not sure how Radio Spirits continues to find names like "Bitter Fruit" when that subtitle has nothing to do with the selection of stories. Mad Scientists? Check. Werewolf? Check. Gangsters? Check. Best part of the box set is the liner notes written by Martin Grams. Grams wrote the definitive book on The Shadow radio program (also available through Amazon, I bought my copy from Amazon) and his liner notes explore more about the show than what can be found in his 800 page book. Made me chose which radio broadcasts to listen to first rather than start with disc one and listen to them progressively. In fact, Elizabeth McLeod and Martin Grams provide the best liner notes for the Radio Spirits box sets. All others are mild by comparison. My decision making as to what to buy from Radio Spirits is based not just on the names of the radio programs but whether McLeod or Grams wrote the notes. I know this is petty but it's my wallet Amazon is asking for.Sound quality is top notch and better than the mp3 sources found on the internet.

Radio Spirits Does It Again
Radio Spirits continues to put out high-quality CD box sets with un-circulated episodes of THE SHADOW that have not been heard for more than 60 or 70 years. On top of new adventures there are a few that are now complete with commercials which existed in edited/syndicated format. Radio Spirits will continue to put out box sets of un-circulated radio shows as long as the sets sell. After all, it costs money for these shows and they are licensed and legal. So rather than support illegal downloading, consider supporting a good cause that will benefit everyone.

The Weed of Crime INDEED Bears Bitter Fruit!
This 9-disc set contains many classic episode favorites of mine, including "Death Stalks the Shadow"......an episode I once used (on LP) in my classroom when I was teaching. I challenged the students to see if they could determine how the Shadow broke out of an escape-proof room.Shadow fans will love this compilation, which pits the Shadow against some interesting opponents.....and a "lost" episode, "The Mine", featuring Orson Wells, is a real treat.

The Shadow (2) ---
I love these old radio shows. Recording excellent except the of course organ music which comes in considerably louder than dialog. I haven't heard any of the old shows (pre-1950) that doesn't have this problem. Also learn how to build a coal fire in an old furnace if you ever have to.
