I enjoy having this cooler.
I order these for my job. Ordered a few for the service trucks. Many did not make it long due to the cooler being thrown around and the cord being cut off. My first one has lasted me over 5 years still cools great. The only problem I have now is the plug is real cheap. Got a new one for another day cab semi truck. My solution is i order a new cigarette lighter plug and cut off the cheap one off the cooler and add a better plug. The plug these come with tend to not stay in and do not stay on when you think its plugged in. Otherwise im happy with having these in my work truck.

Cheaply Made
This was the product that wouldn't stop annoying me lol. It's a great concept, and the cooling part works fine, but the construction of the cooler itself is awful.First of all, the lid is built to be removable for some reason. This would be fine, however they way the designed it to be removable is by simply having two plastic rectangles that slide in to the back - they do not lock in place at all. The result of this, is half the time we opened it, the whole lid would come off. Then we'd have to realign them while in a moving vehicle to get the lid back on - so frustrating.Probably partially as a result of this, within the first weekend of use, one of the metal pins that held the hinge together disappeared. So now the lid really just kept falling off. We basically had to reassemble the entire thing every time we opened it.We did suffer through this because I didn't have time to replace it, but then THE WHOLE BOTTOM fell off. The plastic shell that covered up the insulation just stayed on the floor when we picked it up one day. So for this trip, every time we picked it up, we had to pick it up from the bottom or the whole thing would fall apart. We ended up duct taping it together. So now we have a pricy duct taped cooler that falls apart every time you touch it. Zero stars if I could.

The Road Trip.
In May, our only child moved from our home in Poetry, Texas to Portland, Oregon. We loaded a rental truck (which she insisted on driving the entire way) with her two cats and all of her worldly goods. I packed up our vehicle and with our baby pot bellied pig, Goblin, hit the road. Due to construction, unbelievablely windy spring weather, bee stings and necessary stops at rest areas, it took us nearly 48 hours to get there. This cooler was just about the only thing that actually worked according to plan. The Cooler-- is surprisingly roomy. A six pack of Diet Coke, a six pack of Red Bull, a lot of sliced carrots for Goblin, as well as sandwich fixings and even a small jar of mustard fit inside with no problem.- kept everything cold for the entire time.- was cold, but not frosty. That would still require filling it up with ice and then having to go digging for what is needed and stopping to drain water.- was powered exclusively from a cigarette lighter jack.- stood up to "oh crud" moments when, for one reason or another, I had to break quickly thus sending it sideways or down to the floor.- was easily picked up by it's handle in spite of being heavy. This unit has good insulation and was compact enough to sit on the passenger seat. If you are going to use it this way, I recommend positioning it so that the lid (which is quite heavy) opens towards the dash, since opening it towards the seat will most likely cause it to slam shut...on you. It is also important to remember to unplug it if your vehicle is stopped for a long period of time so it doesn't drain your battery. So why the story? To remind manufacturers that not all products are bought in a vacuum. We didn't need to stop in strange places in the middle of the night to get something to drink and we didn't need to find a grocery store to pick up snacks. It actually made our trip safer.-

Good cooler, bad plug
I have owned many different types of these thermoelectric coolers and this is by far my favorite one. I just purchased my second one. I cools great and fast and is pretty quiet. Now the bad, as many people have stated, it melts the plugs, but alot of them do. They put to small of a cord on these. I am a truck driver and this thing is only shut off for a couple nights a week. All replacement ends that I have tried have melted. The one thing I found has worked is buying a 12 volt extension cord from a truck stop, cutting off the socket end and splicing it to the cooler cord close to the motor. Works like a champ and doesn't get hot. I finally wore the motor out of my first one after about 8 months of almost solid use. Cheaper than buying ice everyday.

Excellent and quiet 12v cooler
Our 2nd 12v cooler now one in each car. this Koolatron cooler works very well and is much quieter and gets colder than our 1st purchase of a name brand Igloo that rattles constantly and is cool not cold like the Koolatron!- and less expensive even if the capacity is a bit smaller- however it has a locking handle for horizontal use!27 July’24 scrapped the IGLOO was intermittently cool then not cool at all! In the 20 months i used this for left overs at restaurants and shopping trips i’d estimate 30 times at about 2 hours at a time and I dont feel the value for money spent was worth the investment. Always protected in the car never left outside and the company does not stock parts or support repair. Very disappointed. In the trash for Tuesdays pick up. Even the 20% coupon for another purchase was not enough of an incentive to stay with that brand. Looking at another KOOLATRON.
