Geeksocial Aluminum Switch Opener for Kail Gateron Cherry MX Switches Mechanical Keyboard Custom Shaft Opening Tool with Metal Magnet (Blue)

I love the feel and heft of this switch opener. The magnets that hold the two sides together and aligned (there are divots that force alignment in the "closed" state) are a good strength to keep everything in one piece. That magnetic mechanism is also nicer than a different aluminum switch opener that I have which uses a rubber gasket to hold the sides together. The other great feature about this opener is that it works for both popular types of switches, so unless you're getting exotic this is the only switch opener you'll ever need.As a bonus I was sent a dog paw artisan keycap whose "paw pads" are rubber - not sure if that comes with every order or if I got lucky, but it was appreciated :DI would absolutely recommend this opener to others, and in-fact I have discovered several of my fellow keyboard community friends have the very same one! It's a keeper.

It's a solid piece of aluminum and it comes in a great little case. The two prong opener works well with Box switches but I find the four prong opener doesn't keep the bottom housing of my Gateron switches down but it does still open them so all you have to do is pull them apart manually. The openers are also connected through some magnets so they won't fall apart in storage. Very nice product overall. Also you don't have to pay for shipping, I'm looking at you KBDfans.

The media could not be loaded.  Ok, 1st, why was "Sheerness" a generated attribute to rate? This is 0% sheer. Or, maybe it was to imply verticality? like a sheer cliff? Then it was just 75% sheer. Ok, the review!Pros:Very solid, nice block of aluminum, feels weighty and delightful. The magnets that keep it closed are strong and it just feels pretty nice. The anodization isn't super uniform, but looks nice, and the machined out centers still have some circular patterning from the cuts, but again, looks and feels pretty nice. No problems at all with the Cherry style switch opener, only a problem with the Kailh one, which I'll touch on in a second. With a little modification, pops switches right open.Cons:Came with some indents and a smashed corner. Either from poor quality control, or just not really caring they'd ship it with a dent. Looks like it was dropped and smashed the counter on the way down.Just cosmetic, would have only taken one star off, except the major issue: The Kailh opener had some very pronounced "rolling" at the end of the wedge. This would have really scratched the **** out of my housings, if I hadn't noticed. (it was a little hard to take a picture of, but see the photos). A little quality time with a fine file and sand-paper fixed it up, but honestly, if you're paying $35 for a switch opener, I'd like a little more quality control.Note: the videos are AFTER filing the opening wedges on the Kailh side.Summary: If this was $20, then the cosmetic problems wouldn't matter as much, but the rolled wedges on the Kailh side is just bad. Probably better off sticking with a nylon or cheaper one, honestly.

super tough machined aluminium anodized nicely. have used to open several hundred MX style switches and have not had a single issue with the tool. good stuff.

This tool works great once you get the hang of it, and tremendously streamlines the process of filming, lubing, or otherwise modifying your switches. Be they Cherry style (four small tabs) or Kailh type (two large flaps) this tool will open 'em right up smoothly, conveniently, and without any harm to the switch.I hadn't used a switch opener before, and had some trouble when I first got it. (Entirely user error!) The fine folks who made and sold it were extremely responsive, providing a useful video with hints and tips on how to use the opener most effectively.And boy howdy, this sure is better than prying switches open manually!

It was heavier than I thought it would be. It's a solid, precision tool. Too pretty to put away in a drawer, it sits on my desk. I have a plastic switch opener, but I feel more confident that this one will last a lifetime. The six magnets hold it securely together. It comes packed in foam in a canister that is a beautiful and useful artifact itself. This was clearly designed and manufactured by people who take pride in their work. It's a little spendy, but it's the last switch opener you'll ever buy.

What would you expect this to be?It opens switches well, so it achieves its functional purpose.Aesthetically it's very nicely finished and extremely solid; don't drop this on your foot!probably the most unexpected notable thing about it was the packaging. It came in a very nice metal tin with a whole bunch of fitted foam. even the tin was wrapped with bubble wrap and foam. I've had graphics cards ship with less protection, hahaha.All in all, get it if you'd like a switch opening tool that can sit on your desk as an ornament between uses instead of inside a drawer. Obviously, if that's the sort of thing you're looking for, then you probably won't mind that you're paying more for the non-functional aspects of this switch opener vs a small cheap one.

I tried to 3D print my own and buy cheap plastic ones. Some work for awhile then broke. Some never worked well. The Kailh openers in particular don't work well if the opener isn't strong and precise.I can get through switches very fast with this. I use tweezers to hold the bottom of the switch down as I lift off the top. Lastly it's a fun color and looks good on the shelf when not in use.

Looks good and does the job for both Kailh and Cherry switches. Was quoted 5 to 6 weeks delivery time and it arrived inside 3 weeks. Pretty happy really.

Very nicely milled! Works like a charm.Shipping took a very long time (like almost 2 months), but that's to be expected considering the current world situation and how far away the product is shipping from.Customer service was very nice and speedy too.

It's a bit expensive but think about it as a decoration piece besides the great functionality that it offers. Impeccable finish and the gray color match with the apple space gray color. They delivered with a metal box to me. Really happy! Thank you guys!
