Everything Just Tastes Better
I love cooking. So I already make a number of the dishes that are in this book. My first reaction was to be a little disappointed. But then I started trying these. And everything is just... better. Nothing is difficult. A lentil soup that I would usually make on the stove top is now done in a crockpot and a single pan -- and it tastes different and BETTER than my usual version. An eggplant dip I've attempted, but is never as good as the restaurant version is now BETTER than the restaurant version. It's some lemon zest here or browning the onions before adding them to the soup. These things are doable for a home cook, and the difference is just fantastic. I preordered this, trusting that it would be a decent sequel to her first cookbook -- and it's BETTER.

Lentil Soup recipe in slow cooker needs More Liquid
I love Alex Guarnaschelli and I have made a few of her recipes with success. I just purchased her cookbook “Cook With Me” via Amazon. She has a few recipes one can make in a Slow Cooker. One of these recipes is Lentil Soup. As you’ll note above, her recipe calls for one (1) lbof brown lentils and 6 cups water to be cooked on low for 2 hours and high for 4 hours. I did just that and never checked on them until the cooking time ended. Well, as I was getting ready to add the other ingredients into soup there was ZERO liquid. Lentils had absorbed all of liquid and they were SO dry. I checked other Lentil soup recipes and found out the following: Most used 1 1/2 cups brown lentils and 9 cups liquid (most used veg or chicken broth). There is either a huge typo in this book or Alex has a slow cooker that is completely different than the standard. I quickly heated 4 cups of chicken stock I had and added it to the lentilpaste - no joke. After adding the cups of chicken stock, the mixture became pretty liquidity. I knew if I refrigerated it overnight it would thicken and flavors would blend and become more enriched. I just heated it up and it still is too dry. More like a chili than soup. The flavor is good though! I would suggest after the lentils cook on low for 2 hours, add a cup of hot liquid, and another cup or two each hour afterwards. I need to gradually add more chicken broth or stock to it still. You probably should heat it first. Or forget the recipe altogether and try someone else’s.But like I said, the flavor in Alex’s is very good once you’ve changed it from paste to soup.

Beautiful cookbook
I am already a huge fan of Alex and love her style of cooking. Her cookbook is beautiful and has tons of recipes. I would say most of her recipes require that you have some cooking skills already, but you also don't need to be a trained chef to succeed with these recipes. This book is especially wonderful for cooks (like me) that have gotten bored with their normal recipe rotations and want to try something new and a little challenging. 5 stars!

Excellent Guide!
I just got my copy and am so inspired to try Alex’s recipes. The narratives that accompany the recipes are great. I’ve already learned to flip your chicken over when resting so that the juices redistribute, what to do with spaghetti squash and the importance of acid in a dish. Thanks Alex! Congratulations on a beautiful and helpful book for us family cooks!

Amazing recipes
Her Shrimp Bisque recipe was featured in Better Homes & Garden magazine. It was somewhat labor intensive but so worth it. I have made it for family and friends and they all love it. Best shrimp bisque ever! I am enjoying trying other recipes - so good.

For the Home Cook or for the high school student learning how to boil water?
Mac and cheese?? Stuffed shells?? What kind of basic recipe book is this? I have been wowed by the creativity of Alex on a variety of shows for years and figured I could gain some flavor know how by buying her book. However $29 to make a fried chicken cutlet sandwich or "I use Jif peanut butter" is not my idea of creating innovative dishes at home. Even many of the photos, like that for the dried out looking roast beef do not seem appealing. Save your money.

I expected something better
Alex is an insanely good chef . I was looking forward to getting to try and replicate her food but this book was very much of a let down for me and I will be attempting to return it. The recipes included were very odd choices and a lot of things adding to the total number of them were just drinks and like you don't cook drinks and was just a cop out way to inflate the number in my opinion. I was only able to find 1 recipe i would attempt and even that i wasn't entirely sold on.

Beautiful Book with Delicious Recipes
As a collector of many cookbooks I can say that this book contains recipes you will actually make! The recipes are clear, easy to follow and delicious and are made with ingredients anyone can find (and probably already has). The book itself is beautifully laid out with nice photos and stories that give you some insight into Alex Guarnaschelli. A great addition to any kitchen.
