Brilliant movie, highly recommend!
Loved this movie, I’d never heard about it until someone recommended it to me. Its a fairly older movie! Considering the year it was released it stands up fairly well as a really watchable and enjoyable movie! I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Shockingly priescent
Heard of it in the 1970s, only managed to watch now. So prophetic, 1984-sort-of dystopic scenario but with Charlton Heston - great for any fans of 1960s sci-fi doom-laden predictions and highly relevant today.

Soylent Green - It's got real heart... ;)
Seventies films are my favourites, having been a very large part of my teen to adult years. They often had a richness that went missing from blockbusters and story-driven multiplex-pleasers. On revisiting many, I find them a little dated, sensibilities having changed over the years. Sometimes a bit cheesy, drawn out, glacial in pacing. But not Soylent Green. Apart from some dodgy fashions, and a slow(ish) pace, it's a great and quite emotional ride. Plus a warning from history. And also the great Edward G Robinson's last film. He died a couple of weeks after filming.

Not as good as I hoped
Though there are some interesting ideas in the this film and it is fairly gripping at points, it just isn't that exciting. The horrific revelation at the end is neither surprising nor particularly shocking compared with some of the other horrors of this future world. I watched because I love sci-fi, but this doesn't stack up well against Apes/Silent running etc etc.Worth a watch if you can get it cheep and are interested in this kind of thing. The DVD version looked shocking awful in the outside shots, with a yellow tinge and pixelated artifacts - I couldn't tell but I assume the original has dust storms or something - they didn't come out well in this version.
