Beautiful Bike
My grand-daughter loves her new bike! It's good quality and was easy to put together.

Gear shifter way too tight and parts everywhere
Gear shifter totally unusable for an 8 year old, even for me as an adult. Bike was easy to assemble but there are quite a few manufacturing and design defects. Brakes only pull on one side and the other side is constantly rubbing regardless of adjustment. Seat is much higher than the handlebars, proportionally, even at its lowest point. I contacted Amazon and the only option was to return the item but it's assembled and way too close to Christmas to risk not having a gift. I recommend reading the reviews.... and believing them!

Nice bicycle for the price
Just got the bicycle in and put it together easily (you'll need a few tools, like a hex wrench, 14mm socket, 13mm socket, and a crescent wrench) it's pretty much put the handle bars on, put on the seat, put on the front tire and the pedals and it's done. Over all for the price it's a solid bike. As someone else mentioned, the shift knob on the handle bars are tough to turn, so i'll have to see if i can adjust that later. Again, for the price, thats not a big deal. will see how it performs after a month or so. If things go bad i'll revise this review, but so far, happy with it.Update: So yes the shiftier is bad. best guess will be to change it out and see if that helps.Update 2: Okay so changed out the shifter with this one, Shimano Tourney TZ500 6-Speed Right Thumb Shifter, and it's like a whole different bike. where once was almost impossible to shift, now shifts smooth and easy. SO, if you are looking at this bicycle, you'll probably have to change out the shifter. there are other ones available, like another handle bar type, but i'm partial to thumb shifters.I still give this 4 stars, mainly for the value. at this price it was perfect for my child to use and outgrow. it would have be easy for them to use a working shifter, and i doubt it would have added much to the overall price.

Could be better
I worked in this bike for a while to get it properly tuned and it's still mediocre. Like others, I had to cut the seat post down a bit. That wasn't a big deal though. The gear selector is really awful. My daughter has a really hard time going down in gear and actually can not make gear one work no matter what. In the end I modified the derailer spring to make it lighter and that made the torque to switch gears 2-5 ok for her but 1 is still too tight. I may try again, but really, the derailer is mismatched with the selector and it makes it stiff even for an adult hand.Still, what are you expecting for $140? It's got wheels and gears, and after resetting the bearing tension EVERYWHERE, properly tensioning the brakes, and retuning the gear selector and derailer it is a pretty neat bike.
