Skytech AF-LMF/R Remote Controlled Fireplace Gas Valve Control Kit

Easy install took about an hour to 90 minutes, including sinking the remote to the gas valve. Mach is easier to use than the old variable flame unit I had. The simplicity of on/off is perfect.

I have two of these units. One is working properly, the other works only for a period of time then shuts off. Fought it for several hours. I’m handy, this thing is difficult and frustrating. Enough so where I pulled it out tonight and put it where it belongs, in the trash. I don’t know what a better alternative remote control unit is, but this one stinks. Basically, the thermocouple/ pilot on these go bad every few months in not sooner. In Texas, I have to change out the thermocouple assembly twice a season for it to continue to function properly. I have tried buying replacements on Amazon and at Home Depot. All you need is an adjustable wrench. Turn off the gas first and then replace the whole assembly making sure not to crimp the pilot line. It’s frustrating, but changing this whenever the unit fails to stay on is the only way to fix it I have found. I’ve taken the old ones and tried to clean the thermocouple, blow out the gas tube with a compressor etc, I never get them to work right again. It’s not supposed to be a consumable part. Sky tech is aware of this issue. Hope this helps someone.

very nice product and fairly easy to install. works like a charm and the remote feature we love.

So far so good, been using it for a couple months without any issues. Such a huge improvement from having to reach in and light manually. The pilot stays lit even when we forget to close the fireplace and the remote is such a nice feature. the wires are long enough to move the device that holds the batteries far off into the corner away from the fire.

The unit installs easily and is then easy to control. It worked beautifully for the first season. However. Now, after just over a year and about 20 uses, the pilot does not stay lit. Even if the pilot is lit and the logs are on, the entire unit shuts down after a few minutes. The unit is now basically useless. It appears that the thermocouple is no longer working. Unfortunately, there appears to be no way to correct his situation.

Easy install (once you ensure you have all the right fittings/connections) and a great overall product. I would absolutely recommend this to friends/family. Pros: - If you're replacing a non-remote unit or another remote tune, the installation is pretty straight forward - Remote works very well and the included mount, though basic, is a nice touch - Very east to light pilot and all of the hardware is included (minus connection to the burner) Cons: - Receiver unit seem kind of cheap...worried about mounting it in the actual fireplace as suggested by the instructions as this thing looks like it could melt at ROOM TEMP let alone 130 degrees! - Pilot light is a bit loud...I know, sort of trivial...but dang this thing is seriously loud.

It is the perfect addition to my gas fireplace.

The unit worked for a few months and then stopped working. (i used the unit maybe 10 times after purchase, then stopped trying to use it until the following winter) The remote control seems to work as I can hear a 'clicking' sound near the gas valve, but the valve does not open and gas does not flow. I suspect the solenoid / valve is frozen. I am not impressed and would not recommend this unit.
