Works now
I bought one of these 3.5 years ago to work with PLCs, that one that I purchased still works. I bought one more recently and it wouldn't work. I bought another one 2 weeks ago and it also would not work. Both I tried with the same computer and compared it to the still working cable, but neither of the new cables would work.Update: The cables are working fine but the software I was working with was a bit troublesome. I overcame the issue and both cables seem to be working well now.

Watch for mounting nut mismatch
This is the first time I've written poor review for an adapter which electrically functions but mechanically it's a mess. The equipment I need to connect to has a DB9F connector. This adapter has a DB9M connector. So far so good. Only this adapter has a nut instead of a screw. The photo in the listing for this device showed a nut, but the nuts are typically removable, they have a screw end on the opposite side. When I tried to remove the nut it just spun in the housing. It won't come off!! Fortunately I had a dremel tool handy. After breaking 4 cutoff wheels and some melted plastic I finally had something that would mate. This was an unnecessary problem. If the mfr simply used a screw then there would be no problem mating to another connector with a screw, because the screws are designed to have end play to retract out of the way of a nut. If they used neither a screw or a nut it would be no problem. If they used a nut which was removable it would have been no problem. If the connector you're mating to has a nut then don't buy this product, this manufacturer hasn't executed the normal and expected mechanical design effort for compatibility. One more thing, I was one of the lucky ones who did not need a driver. The device came with a CD but no driver link. Are these people stuck in the 20th century? Why not a download link in the product listing, or on the box, or on the CD? Why do we have to chase them for small stuff like this??Next time I'll buy from a vendor who cares about their customers by taking care of the details so that we don't have to.

Works on Mac/Windows but some drawbacks.
Works fine on a M2 Mac running Sonoma and a Windows 10 box. Windows worked out of the box. Drivers from the Internet for the Mac didn't work, but I eventually learned that Prolific publishes their drivers on the App Store.Drivers come on CD, but who has a CD anymore?Biggest problem is that the cable has female nuts to mate to the thing you're plugging it into. However, devices typically also have female nuts and expect the cable to have the male screws. So I couldn't plug this into my device.I couldn't remove the nuts from the cable so I had to pull them from the device. So now it plugs in but isn't clamped by anything.
