Comprehensive, a little heavy for travel
Bought this book because Iām spending. Lot of time diving around Indonesia and I want to identify the fish. Great resource and lots of interesting facts. It's a little heavy for travel, but I appreciate how complete it is. I'll probably bring it on my next trip but in my backpack.

Authoritative and Great Value
Terrific value for the money; you won't find a better field guide to the reef fishes of the tropical Indo-Pacific. Other guides have photographs and that's great, but the illustrations in this guide are first-rate. The authors are the best in their field.

Hard to use kindle version
Nice illustrations but many fishes are clumped together on a single page, without names, only numbers. Very cumbersome to use as a field guide, at least in kindle format. There are much better organized guides to indo- pacific fishes. I do not like this one.

Good reference book. Seems quite comprehensive. Good index, which is crucial.
Good illustrations, descriptions.

Kindle version has terrible navigation--not much better than a PDF
I don't recommend you get the Kindle version. I gave up using it to try to identify fish. A text search for a fish will get you to the textual description, but since the illustration is on a different page, you then have to scroll several pages to see what the fish looks like and also remember the number for the fish ā because the illustrations are identified by number, not name. And the table of contents doesn't even list the individual families, so there is no easy way to navigate to them.

There are better books for the money
Most of the pictures are painted, not actual photographs of each species. The book is nothing exceptional. If I would have known it was laid out the way it was, I would not have bought it.

Pictures don't show up
The pictures cannot be seen in this book. Some are greyed out and some aren't visible at all. It's a shame that the publishing was done so badly because otherwise it looks like a great book with edible scores for each fish.
