SD-EXP24010 in 54mm ExpressCard Port
I bought this card to add Gigabit LAN to a laptop that only had 100mbps built-in LAN. The laptop has a 54mm ExpressCard port. I found a three pack of 34mm to 54mm stabilizer "wings" for about $3 locally. I received the card and attached the 54mm stabilizer. The card seems to stick out about 3 to 5mm more than needed from the laptop's ExpressCard port, but maybe other laptops need more clearance.Once inserted the card was instantly recognized in Windows 7 x64 and drivers automatically loaded. I never touched the disc that came with the card, but never do for any PC hardware. Just get the latest drivers from the manufacture's website or in this case let Windows 7 handle it automatically. The card connected as a 1Gbps connection to my Gigabit network (Trendnet 16-port switch). In the adapter properties it shows Jumbo Frame support up to 9K MTU in 1K increments. I did a file copy of a ~8GB file and the 5,400 rpm laptop HDD maintained about 65 MB/s which is what I was expecting since the HDD transfer speed is the bottleneck. I also ejected the card and reinserted it a couple times, without rebooting, and it reconnected with no problems. So far everything works great and it performs better than expected. I was concerned that the ExpressCard port speed would be a bottleneck, but that wasn't the case with my (wife's) laptop. If I had to find a negative it would be that the card could be about 5mm shorter so that the bulging part of the card would be flush with the side of the laptop. In my case there is a gap between the side and where the bulge begins. However, I assume the distance needed varies depending on the laptop so I'm not going to knock it down a star.

Excellent Performance, But Somewhat Large Exposed Ethernet Connector Outside of the Laptop
I have a Gateway M-6827 laptop that had the internal Ethernet network connector stop functioning. Instead of having to replace the motherboard, I thought I would try this as a solution since it also offered Gigabit LAN speed for my Verizon FIOS high speed LAN. Given the low price, I felt it was worth the risk to try it. I also had purchased a 3 pack of StarTech.com Stabilizer Adapters (ECBRACKET2), as my ExpressCard slot is 54mm, but can accept the 34mm ExpressCards. I inserted the Syba SD-EXP24010 into my ExpressCard and my laptop (MS Vista) recognized the new hardware, installed the drivers automatically and immediately had gigabit Ethernet connectivity to my high speed network. The card even has the status LEDs to show activity and connectivity speed. My only negative for the card is the size of the Ethernet connector that physically extends outside the edge of the laptop, as it sticks out 1.5 inches. Given the low price and the high performance it is a great solution for my needs, just make sure it fits your laptop and that if you have a 54mm slot then also purchase the adapters to firmly seat the card in place in your laptop.

Excellent item!
I ordered this item based on the overall positive reviews it had received from other customers as well as its excellence price point. I have no regrets at all, it performs well and installed easily on my Panasonic Toughbook CF-19 running Windows XP Professional.I required the card because the on-board LAN adapter is only a 10/100 unit, and I needed the ability to test 150 Mbps WAN connections on the Verizon FiOS network that I install and maintain daily. The card is very easily transportable and works very well for this intended purpose. The only proviso is to be sure to purchase the plastic adapters if your particular machine utilizes the wider card slot bay, as mine does.Overall gets two thumbs up and sure you won't have any disappointment with this product.

doesn't work with a usb express card adapter
I bought this to download my videos from a camera with firewire. I don't have an expansion slot on my laptop, so I ordered the usb express card adapter as suggested by amazon (customers who bought this item, also bought this one.) Unfortunately the two are not compatible. If you have an expansion slot on your computer, it may work fine, but don't try it with an adapter.

Works well with any ExpressCard slot capable notebook..
Bought this for my Lenovo Thinkpad X220 since it doesn't have a firewire port (unlike my Thinkpad x60s before). Plugged my Maxtor 2TB firewire 400 external drive and it detected and ran fine. then around 5 to 10 minutes suddenly disappeared from my system.....it must have come loose on the port or must've timed out (which i highly doubt since it was in the middle of transferring 23gigabytes of pictures and videos)...... might need to tweak the time out delay with Windows 7. so i'm giving this 3 out of 5 stars for now.

Excellent!
I've searched a number of websites and reviews before I decided to buy this controller card. I needed it for my Lenovo T410s laptop running Windows 7 32-bit in order to connect my Nikon LS-9000 film scanner. Nikon has only provided 32-bit software and drivers for Windows 7, so I am not able to use the scanner with my desktop (64-bit Windows 7). I wasn't really sure which card to buy because of the typical Internet chatter of incompatibilities. In the past, I bought a FireWire PCMCIA controller card for an older laptop that simply would not work with the scanner. Never found out why. However, this controller card works like a charm! I took it out of its impossibly difficult to open plastic box, slid it into the ExpressCard slot of my laptop, and it just worked. Flawlessly. The scanner driver and software are stable, operation is smooth and fast. It's amazing what a difference the ExpressCard expansion slot makes.
