Gets very cool/cold and lasts about 60 minutes under certain conditions. Caution when bending pack to activate.
Amazing how cold these get. Mine tend to last about 60 minutes with the coolness slowly reducing over that time period. This is also under room temperature conditions and with the occasional removing of the pack from skin. I agree with other reviews that each pack is hard to break, even when carefully following instructions. One time a unit popped a small whole at the bottom of the outer pack as I bent it to break the inner pack. Fortunately it was just the one end and I was still able to use it by positioning it where no fluid would leak out. Nevertheless, be mindful of breaking the pack. I assume making the pack easier to break/activate might increase the risk that purchasers would receive packs that had already activated during the tussle of shipping.

Best Ice Pack
We buy these for the football team every year. Its nice that they get cold once you break them so easy to throw in equipment bag.

A Life Saver When You Need Them
Can I just say that these were a life saver on a couple of occasions. I ended up ordering two boxes of the McKesson Cold Compresses when I broke my ankle. Not only did they work on helping with the pain of a swollen, post surgery ankle, the convenience of having them within reach (and not having to hobble into another room, get ice from the freezer and pack it into an ice pack---all while balancing on one leg and a crutch) was immeasurable. These cold compresses came to the rescue again a second time when my daughter dislocated her kneecap---not only could she use these at home but was able to take them to school to use during the day without having to leave class for ice--no muss, no fuss.

They are perfectly adequate
These are fine. They work immediately upon breaking/mixing and last about 20-30 minutes. They are not very cold but do their job. I bought them to put in my response kit for when I have attacks/flare-ups related to some disorders/disabilities that I live with for times when I’m out of my house and have an issue, so they are not something I use regularly. I could see that they would work well for kids who fell down or as a temporary thing but I think if you are looking for cold enough to really bring swelling down you might need a bit more. Good for a small boo-boo or ok for those of us with Mast Cell Attacks, Migraines, etc. for a temporary solution.

Worth it
these last about 1 hour after start, but they also last at least 1 year in storage

Not worth it. Seller will not help
I purchased these ice packs for a trip to Rome in the event I develop one of my excruciating back spasms. As European establishments rarely have ice, I figured these would be a great option. I tried one to see how it worked and to my great disappointment, it only delivered a mere 5 minutes of cold before they begin to cool down rapidly. I figured they would at least last 10 minutes, but no. While the description said the pack was 4x6, the cold area is just 5x3, so smaller than thought. I contacted McKesson and they won’t help because it was purchased from a third party. I called Amazon, but they were unable to get any resolution with the seller either. Amazon is willing to go further with helping me, but it would take a lot of time, so I decided it wasn’t worth the effort. Amazon did say, however, that they have had numerous complaints about this product and might do something to note that in the description. Kudos to Amazon for going to bat for me. Don’t buy if you need more than 5 minutes for acute pain.

Good idea
Working as advertised. Keeping them nearby on hot days after experiencing heat exhaustion. Watch the signs and act before you collapse. Lesson learned

They don’t get very cold, they don’t stay very cold.
It’s an ice pack so I don’t expect much, but they really don’t stay cold very long. I use them for sports injuries during a game and you’re lucky to get them really cold for any length of time and then they’re just luke warm. I don’t know if there’s a better option out there, but I’ll be trying something new when it’s time to refill.
