they eventually quit working but the capacitors can be replaced with a better one and it works great again
Have purchased a couple other brands of digital boxes and NONE of them performed as well as this one. We can get a lot more stations with it and it has both Guide and Info buttons with a lot more information than other brands had if they even had these buttons. Yes, they eventually quit working but the capacitors can be replaced with a better one and it works great again. As we live way out in the country, away from most TV stations and reception is very bad, cannot recommend this box enough. Give 4 stars because of the capacitor problem.

GREAT! -- While it lasted -- 102 Weeks
This WAS great. I hooked it up to an amplified rabbit ears/uhf antenna [inexpensive Radio Shack "HDTV Antenna"] and an old 25" RCA analogue TV I purchased some time ago from a friend who had purchased it used some years before from a hotel chain which was refurbishing its rooms. "Recipe for disaster" you might think, but it worked fine inside a Manhattan apartment nestled among much taller apartment houses. Setup was easy. Channels galore! Superb picture quality; visitors remarked on the quality of my big 25" TV.The only things not to my liking were: 1) the long lag time to jump between non adjacent channels which, apparently, plagues ALL DTV converter boxes; 2) the keypad layout -- seemed like button organization and placement was the work of someone who had never used a remote to watch TV before. However, both those complaints were minor. Picture quality was excellent. The box itself is simple on the outside: -- an "eye" to sense the infra red signal from the remote; -- channel UP button; -- channel DOWN button; -- a power On/Off button; -- a two-color power indicator: GREEN = ON ORANGE = Plugged in but OFF BLACK or dark = UNpluggedThat was it -- or so I thought until yesterday when I suddenly lost both sound & video on the TV. I checked the converter box power LED and it was RED! It turned GREEN after a while and the TV screen displayed the Channel Master branding page -- then BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) and the converter power was RED, again. This cycled RED/GREEN, RED/GREEN for several minutes then ended in a permanent RED.I UNplugged it from AC power & replugged it a few times but could only get the RED light. The box is a goner! Turns ought I didn't buy it -- I just rented it for 102 weeks, not quite two years.Too bad, so sad! I think I'll try a different brand the 2nd time around and hope for increased longevity as well as good picture quality.

A Big Difference Over the ''CHEAPIES"
Liked this one so much that I bought a second one for the bedroom. Was a little doubtful after reading a couple of negative reviews. Having tried virtually all of the cheaper ($35.00 to $50.00 range) tuners I decided to give this one a try. My deep-fringe antenna, antenna rotor and antenna tower are all ChannelMaster brand; Have had that setup singe 1985. I was not disappointed. Was able to retrieve 88 TV channels without moving the antenna. The cheaper tuners yielded between 25 and 33 channels.Suggest that any potential buyer should download the user manual first and READ IT. Be sure of exactly what you will be purchasing. You be the judge !

Very very bad quality !!!
After just a few months, it won't turn on . The red light is always on, il won't turn on with the remote or by pushing the ON button. I tried unplugging it and pluging it back in and all that happens is the red light stays on ! So I can't use it at all !To bad because the colors and the reception of the channels was excellent.

Poor Product Life
I bought two of them in 2009. One lasted 3 years and other four years. I think a good quality electronics product should have better life than that. And this one is not exactly priced low.

So far, this unit is working well. It ...
So far, this unit is working well. It was the only one I could find with s-video output.I'm a bit wary of other comments about the "Chinese capacitors," but will have to wait and see on that.My only other concern is the possibility of overheating. The top has a few (not many) venting slots for heat to escape and there are also vent slots on the bottom. However, the unit's "feet" keep the bottom only about 1/16 of an inch above whatever surface it's sitting on, so there's very little room for any heat exchange with external air.Keeping my fingers crossed on that latter concern.

this is the best tuner I've found so far - but be prepared ...
Imagine designing an ATSC tuner with quality chips (France), then outsourcing assembly to a military contractor in Bulgaria (based on my inspection of the high spec PC Board they used. Only the assembler in Bulgaria skimps on the Chinese capacitors so he could stil turn a profit?*Every* one of these will need the caps replaced with "good stuff" - not the materials you'll find locally. I only hope the design is forgiving enough so changeout of those tiny surface mount caps can be avoided.Performance wise, this is the best tuner I've found so far - but be prepared for the price. You *will* pay it.

ROKU vendor
I did have and use ROKU for several years... It always worked great but finally died---suspect it was due to a power supply failure.... but it was always on and lasted over 5 years. The distributor was a blessing.... the original delivery date was about 1-2 weeks ... I sent hima note and asked if they could possibly help get it to us as we had no TV programing servicethat offered us what we got from using the ROCU. This is the unbleivable part:The vendor shipped it Fed Exp next day at no charge without being asked and no extra charge.Where do u ever get this service? No I am not a relative... just a happy customer!

Good until it failed
Made in Bulgaria and purchased from Amazon.ca in mid 2011, this unit performed well to convert OTAS digital to analogue. It recently failed after nine years' service; the indicator light glows red. I'll recycle it now as E-waste since our 2019 Samsung LCD receives our essential favourites with its internal antenna. The lifespan of our electronics (also our appliances and furnace) have all been considerably longer than nine years, hence my rating. Channel Master commanded a premium price compared to others at the time; I bought based on its reputation. Who can say if it was no more durable than lesser cost equivalents?
