Cheongsam (Pepin Fashion, Textiles & Patterns)

It's really just OK. I am not familiar with this 'series', but this is more or less a fashion 'lookbook' with mediocre photography (and although some of the cheongsams are nice, wasn't anything extraordinary. Plus the shoes in here are just plain ugly (why?) . There are some schematic diagrams of how pattern pieces to some basic types of cheongsam/qipao might look, but far from a comprehensive treatise on construction or history. A few closeup shots of brocade and some embroidery drawings that aren't exactly iconoclastic of fabrics used. And there is some objectionable objectification on asian dress - one pictorial spread features a see through white number showing 'embroidery' and the model is clearly not wearing underpants. Plus, some of the articles are just chauvinistic...some old guy talking about how cheongsams with their thigh-high slits causing traffic accidents on the boulevards of old Shanghai/Hong Kong... What was that about?I haven't had a chance to look at the CD that is enclosed - hopefully there is more on construction in there. If there is, I'll revise my review.

Lovely book; lots of beautiful photos and basic setails of structure; includes older photos as well as more modern images in non-traditional fabrics.

Ich habe mir dieses Buch gekauft, da ich nach einen traditionellen Schnitt gesucht habe. Die Bilder sind schön aber die abgebildete technischen Zeichnungen unbrauchbar, es ist ein völlig anderer Schnitt (die Kleider bestehen auch zwei teilen und die technische Zeichnung stellt einen Schnitt aus 6 teile da und auch noch seitenverkehrt).Aber, sehr schöne Bilder und Muster.
