GREAT, fun, beautifully photographed DOG book for baby!
I discovered this book about 3 years ago while looking for a meaningful gift (to me and) to the parents of the 1 year old I was sending this to! I love dogs and they do, too, so I knew it was the perfect gift the second I saw it. Every little child should have this beautifully photographed book. The stories are darling and the pull tabs which add motion and interesting tactile elements to the stories are so much fun. The thank you card I received mentioned that it was now the birthday boy's favorite book. He loved it and now at 3 1/2 years old, still does! He loves reading this book and looking at the adorable pictures and now shares it with his 18 month old brother. Don't worry - if you are not a dog lover, they also have a cat book, which is just as wonderful! This book The Dog is now on my gift-giving list because it is a great shower gift, birthday gift or holiday gift (if they don't already have it). You will not be disappointed with this beautiful, fun book.

"Dog! Dog! Dog!"
This is a fabulous, interactive, rhyming book, showing a variety of dog breeds. I bought this when my son was 10 months old, after he said "dog" as his first word. He requests it VERY often, first by pointing to it up on the shelf, and now pointing and saying "Dog!". He loves to touch the furry patches found on some of the dogs, touch the one dog's sticky tongue made out of double stick tape, and at 12 months, he just figured out how to pull the tabs to make a tail wag or one dog lift its leg to do its business. He loves to lift the flap at the end of the book, as we shout out the name of the animal hidden beneath. This book is well worth the price I paid on Amazon. It's listed as hardcover, but the pages inside are very sturdy, more like a board book. One thing to note is that it is a supervised book in our house, since our little guy likes to pull on the moving parts, and I've already had to do some repairs!

Hands on, funny and adorable!
I saw this book before I was even pregnant and I knew I had to buy it. When my daughter was born, my mom bought it for her, and now that she's almost a year old, my daughter LOVES the book. We have 2 dogs of our own, so naturally she's already interested in dogs and fluffy things. We encourage her to feel all the different textures (she likes the Old English sheepdog's fur the best), and she is so interested that she'll explore them several times before she allows me to turn the page. She also loves the moving parts and tries pulling the tabs herself. The book has been tossed onto the floor and thrown around more than I would like, and it has stood up very well to the abuse. We have other books by Matthew Van Fleet, but this is my daughter's favorite. I highly recommend it to anyone with a child who loves dogs or touch and feel books. UPDATE: The book has finally started falling apart. My daughter looks at it every day about 20 times a day. She ripped off the head of the dog shaking itself dry, and has now busted the spine. Would I buy it again? YOU BET!

Wonderful Book. Keeps babies engaged.
I bought this book for my 7-month old grandson. Since I taught his dad how to say "puppy" with a similar book when he was 9 months old, I wanted a book with lots of actual pictures of dogs and puppies. This book has that and much more. Several of the pages have pull-tabs to make a tail wag or a leg scratch... or a cute surprise at the end. Other pages have soft ears or sticky tongues to touch, along with lots of textures on tails and backs. The array of breeds presented is wonderful, and the book is surprisingly sturdy. It's a little bigger than I expected, but I like that. It's a good size, just right for little hands to explore. My grandson gets very excited when we bring the book out. He will sit with me for the longest time just looking at each dog and exploring all the different textures and motions on each page. We particularly like getting to meet each dog by name at the end of the book. I would highly recommend this book to parents and grandparents who not only enjoy reading to their children, but also enjoy exploring.

Definitely a fun and interactive book for toddlers who love dogs. I bought a second copy because my our 2 yr old kind of destroyed the first one, with all of the pull tabs and stuff. It's built well, but realistically, it is paper/carboard and it's going to come apart when the 2 yr old decides.

I had never known until homeschooling parents told me that there are push pull and touch and feel board books. I was given sedantry books by the school and he would not read them so that's why I was looking for interactive books. My husband even quizzed him with a book magnet and said that "we understand that you don't like this". Once he understood that books can be fun then he sat down with sedentary (write ups with pictures) books too. I am trying to help my child figure out which dog he wants so that's why I got this book. It has different dogs, textures and playful content.
