GOOD QUALITY AT GREAT PRICE
The number of good reviews tell a true story. This is a great fountain pen (fine nib) and I have expensive Lamy and Sheaffer too, this honestly compares very well. The weight balance is good, it writes extremely well - if you’re still not sure, there are actually YouTube reviews out there too that sing this pen’s praises!

I am "converted"
I was a little hesitant when I was about to order this pen because I never heard about this company and so it was a bit of a gamble. Turned out to be the best pen I currently own! It is sturdy, its colors do not seem to fade, it has very smooth writing (fine nib), it comes with a converter. I am also the owner of a couple of Faber Castells, a Basic (fine) and a Neo Slim (fine). The first one was my favorite so far, with a very good quality nib and smooth writing, although some parts of it felt a bit "cheap" (especially the cap). Neo slim suffered from a non-airtight cap, so I never really got to use it since the ink was quickly drying. This baby, the Black Forest, is built like a tank, writes as smoothly as the FB Basic, and the cap is a snag fit, so no drying issues. I could not recommend this pen enough.

This Pen Requires a Premium Ink
On first receiving this pen I was very dissapointed and wrote a one star review. I work in the art dept for TV and wanted a pen I could fill with any colour ink as quite often we are using brown inks for period detail documents. I was hopeful that I could fill the converter with ink from the graphics dept so I had a nice pen to give to actors so they could begin writing before handing them a quill for shooting the scene. Unfortunately the ink must have been too thick and wouldn't flow in the pen. I have since flushed out thouroughly and replaced with a premium black ink and the pen works a treat. I don't really have a broad frame of reference having not used many fountain pens in the past but for the £15 or so that I paid I will say that I'm now not displeased.

My best sketching pen by far
I’m a designer who sketches & doodles a lot. I’ve owned and used innumerable pens over 2 decades. This is by far the best one I’ve owned and used! I’ve added a converter to it for a Waterman purple ink and it’s given me even more unique lines. I was obviously skeptical about it. But I prefer it over my Lamy Safari which feels stiff and hard to sketch with in comparison. I can’t recommend it enough!

Excellent medium writing pen
Solid black pen in grey box. Looks good. Metal body. Medium nib. Excellent for writing. Consistent line. Reliable.Perhaps overly so, for drawing. Gives a firm black line - little variation. That may change as ink runs out.Overall, a good pen. Recommended.

A good solid pen
The first thing that struck me about this pen is how solid it is. It weighs more than the tin box it comes in! It looks like the kind of thing an electrician might have in his tool box to test currents in switches at first glance and feels as sturdy. This is not a lightweight pen. It weighs in at over 30g with a full converter of ink in it and lays down a solid line (there's thst word again). This strikes me as a very masculine pen in black and wouldn't be out of place on the desk of some kind of Perce Brosnan looking executive signing billion pound contracts with it. Its very understated in its elegance and that definitely sells it to me- it's not trying too hard to be a fashion accessory but to be what it was made for. It writes well, a good flow and fills easily with the converter which fits in well.

Really impressed
Had the hankering for fountain pen, but didn't want to break the bank. Read the reviews for this pen and thought "for the money, what's the worst that can happen?". Well the answer is nothing can go wrong…The Hongdian Black Forest Fountain Pen is a balanced pen, which writes well (I bought the fine nib). Build quality is excellent, all the pieces snaps, screws, and clicks reassuringly well. The finish is great, a black pen writing black (very Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe).Would recommend this pen to anyone buying their first fountain pen or an everyday fountain pen.

Persistent hard start
The pen itself is physically very nice. Good to hold and well-balanced. The nib i smooth. When the ink is flowing it's also nice to write with. However even after a few minutes - capped - ink doesn't flow freely. After a day it's a proper hard start - wet the nib a few times to get the ink going. That makes it pretty much unusable for me unfortunately.
