Wilton Gum Paste and Fondant Lesson Plan, Course 3

Excellent book!! Gives all the little "hidden" goodies all good bakers need. This is probably the best book EVER! I really can't understand why Wilton does not sell these books. Because I've taken the Wilton classes, I know you receive ONE book(image how smudge and sticky the pages get after cooking several cakes). A true cake maker needs more than 1 book because the 1 book will tear up over ages. If Wilton thinks they are making money by signing you up for classes, they are wrong. The classes can be excellent - according to the person teaching it. However, your book is yours forever. You can go back and review items you have forgotten. This is worth every single penny. However...now I don't understand WHY AMAZON will not sell more than 3 books at the time?!?!?...but they won't. Bottom line...best instructional book ever. Will make you #1 cake baker and designer :)

I've always loved cake decorating, ever since I took my first Wilton class. Gum Paste and Fondant seemed beyond my capabilities but when I saw this book I decided to give it a try. The book is very easy to follow with lots of step by step pictures. It's a lot of fun but, I admit, a bit frustrating. No matter how closely I follow the steps, my creations never turn out exactly like the pictures. I think part of the problem is that I'm a perfectionist at heart but....grrrr.....I can't fault the book, as all Wilton Lesson Plans, it's great.

I ordered this lesson plan because I took the first two courses of Wilton's Cake Decorating, and I didn't want to sign up for the 3rd course only because I didn't want to spend so much money for the classes. So I bought the kit in Michaels figuring I would teach myself but this time the lesson plan wasn't included in kit like the first 2 kits were. This lesson plan is great and if you have some experience with working with fondant and gum paste this will be a piece of cake for you, no pun intended. But this definitely isn't for a beginner.

I purchased for a niece that has started baking cakes and thought it would give some basics on using fondant to make animals, flowers, etc., similar to the modeling clay books. It does do that, but requires the fondant tools. I believe that the instructions for everything in the book reference specific numbered fondant tools that are needed. She doesn't own any of the tools so I ended up having to buy several packets of basic fondant tools to make the book worthwhile. Quality pictures and coated pages, as most Wilton books are, but I would have spent a bit more money for something more substantial if I'd realized it was so few pages ... maybe less than a coloring book size.

I got this book for my daughter as the local craft store wouldn't let her take this class unless she took the other two first which she doesn't need. The book is full of color pictures so very well illustrated and the directions are clear and easy to follow. I also bought the class kit to go with it and it works great. would recommend for people wanting to learn how to do this on their own at home without a class.

Learned a lot from this book and how to make flowers. Well worth the money if for nothing else it tells you how to make edible glue so you don't have to buy it. I have really used it to learn how to make flowers and it was a big help. I made beautiful professional looking roses the first time using the instructions in this book

This Wilton book is awesome. My local craft shop did not offer the fondant course when I wanted to take it so I decided to teach myself. I followed the lessons in the book and my fondant cakes have improved greatly. In my area the Wilton Method instructors are not so great so I am happy I was able to save the money on the class but still get all of the wonderful Wilton advice. I would definitely recommend not only buying this book, but seeing how much you can teach yourself before spending the money on the class.
