.22 caliber going strong
I casted some 55 grain lead bullets to reload in my AR-15. WOW! This is a cheap way to get some great bullets to shoot down range. The Lyman .22 mould is great. I highly recommend getting the casting book from Lyman and reading about this and other moulds so you can be educated on what to expect from your casted bullets. This is a great mould and produce some of the best bullets. I recommend this one too.

DO NOT BUY!!
After buying this item i made some bullets but to my surprise they were all WAY to large. They measured .259-.262 WOW. And the sad thing about this is that Lyman has not done a recall. It was easier for me to send the item back and get a refund. then to send it to Lyman so that a "TECH" can look at it and determine if it is defective. I ordered the correct one and will will arrive A LOT sooner than if i sent it to Lyman. And here is another Bit of information for all you Reloaders. This quote is from Lyman Cast Bullet handbook, 4th edition, pg 98 #6 Powders: "While not actually fired at a targets, all accuracy loads have a high potential for producing outstanding accuracy since the uniform internal ballistics is critical to accuracy on the target"So what is the margin for error? I don't know about you but i would feel a lot more comfortable if they actually shot at a target with the reloading recipes. I"m sure their calculators are accurate, so what happened to this .223 bullet mold. The scientists were hung over that day?

Important-Buyer Beware!!!
This is not a review, More an observation..Lyman products are solid and very reliable, I have no doubt this was a manufacturing error..This mold a 55 grn 22 cal is not correct! It is larger in diameter than the advertised/ specified size on the box and mold. There is a short notice on YouTube by another individual that purchased the same item and it shows the difference in size..I found out the hard way that something was wrong, after casting several hundred rounds I could not get any through the sizing die. I was able to swage them through a 22 Hornet die but it still would not work.

boolit casting
the mold is made of steel. it should last forever. i have a couple of lee molds and after purchasing this one i will buy any future molds from lyman. its quite heavier than the aluminum molds especially after 15 - 20 mins of casting. my only problem is i didn't research enough on loading 223 with cast bullets before buying. boolit has no accuracy when loading hot enough to get bolt to cycle.

Factory Misslabled mould
As noted by others apparently this mould was missed labeled at the factory. The one I received casts a .260 cal 71 grain bullet using Lyman #2 lead. When compared to bullets shown in Lyman #49 book actual cast bullets appear to be a Lyman #257420.Some one made a boo boo at the factory?

Lyman 225415
Got the mould and cast some bullets with it but I couldn't size them. I measured the bullets and they were .250 diameter. I contacted Lyman and sent the mould back and the replacement should be back soon.

Cleaned the oils out, preheated for about 5 min on a hot plate, started casting. I was using straight wheel weight metal and with in 6 - 8 castings, the bullets were coming out smooth and shinny. Cast about 150 before stopping.

Better at velocities below 1900 fps. Retains Gas Checks well.
Stabilized well in my m4 and was reasonably accurate at 250 meters. A good item for gloom & doom jump kits.
