Authentic Insights Into History Making
This is a book for anyone interested in how histories are made. Following the trajectories of a famed historian's life, Sophie Scott Brown reveals the various influences that shape the writing of historical accounts. Essentially, it is a behind the scenes account of how the decision making processes of a a professional historian - Raphael Samuel - lead to particular accounts, or "histories", of the past. Along the way, we gain deep insights into Samuel's life and his influence on the field of history. My own interest in Samuel's trajectory as a historian was shaped by my time at Ruskin College, where I was a student of Raf and my subsequent interest in history making.
